Any long break away from school has been and will always be treasured by college students. Unlike high school students, we tend to get much longer breaks in between the semester and of course, we have the summer off, too. While we are always excited to embark on our long journey home for break, we wonder how we will spend our time. Many students are lucky to have jobs lined up for them when they return home, but that isn't the case for everyone. Even if a college student has a job on break, that doesn't mean they will not be bored out of their minds.
See, the busy schedule of college causes us to become used to running around and having multiple things to do. Breaks are good to be with family and relax, but there is this vacuum of boredom that steps into place once we realize we hardly have anything intellectually stimulating and constructive to do. So sometimes, our minds get left in a wasteland and we are just not sure what we should do with ourselves. So sometimes, we end up spending the break completely unsure of how to spend it and therefore we might just completely waste it.
So if you find yourself in this situation, what should you do? Well, you need to find things to keep you busy and entertained. For example, you can always catch up on your favorite shows, or explore the possibility of finding new shows. Re-watching your favorite movies will bring you a sense of nostalgia that can't be beat. Finding something endearing and entertaining is an excellent way to spend your time. It is always good to have a laugh, too. You could also spend the time looking for new music and coming to appreciate artists you may have never known about.
Perhaps you should also pick up (or revisit) a hobby. Drawing, reading, writing, cooking-- any one of these will take up your time in a constructive manner. You can also choose to be active and spend your extra time exploring the world around you. Go to the park or take a stroll through the woods. You may learn new things about your home that you never knew before. It's also nice to visit old friends and catch up. Go see a new movie, perhaps. There are always good movies out during winter and summer breaks! Make yourself at home and re-connect with your home town community.
Whatever you choose to do, make sure it is something you will love. Don't waste time being bored and wondering when something interesting will happen. There are a lot of opportunities for growth and fun during your down time while on break. Whether you are working hard in school or enjoying time at home, you need to make the world your oyster!
