No one likes to waste their day off. Although spending the day on the couch drowning under sitcoms can be relaxing, sometimes we need engaging activities and productivity to fully enjoy that well deserved day off. The regime of the clock can't hold us down forever and a day of productivity can be much more relaxing than watching corny sitcoms and scrolling new facebook updates. Don't be a couch dweller! Engage yourself in activities that are both stimulating and fun. There are so many possibilities in 24 hours, try some of these out for size!

1. Read a book

Reading is a great way to stimulate your mind and enhance your imagination. Curling up with a good book in a cozy chair can be relaxing and allows our minds to drift into a whole new world. Reading is a gateway to knowledge and can help expand the mind. There are so many great books out there that handle important topics within our society. One day with a great book can give your mind the engagement it needs to discuss various things that correlate with ourselves and our society. Learning is always productive, and reading is a definite step in the right direction.

2. Cook a meal

Cooking is a wonderful pastime that comes with a yummy reward! On a day off, a homecooked meal can go a long way. Try taking a day and dedicating it to cooking or baking your favorite food. You can put as much detail as you want into the display, the preparation, and even the setting of where the food will be eaten. Make a project out of it! Whether baking desserts or creating a feast, the results will surely be delicious!

3. Plan a movie marathon

Planning always has a slice of fun to it. When discussing a movie marathon, I have the perspective of "go big or go home!" Make the details count! Turn a movie marathon into a night that you look back on, make a memory! Turn your movie environment into a movie paradise. Turn off the lights, leave the phones on silent, light some candles, set up a blanket fort, and never forget the snacks! Invite anyone you want and enjoy a marathon of a series everyone can agree upon! It will definitely be a night worth remembering.

4. DIY projects

DIY projects are a fun way to get creative and spice up your life! Ranging from decor to helpful life hacks, DIY projects are a great way to create something new and useful. You can have complete creative freedom in what you make. The feeling of satisfaction you have after finishing a day's worth of new projects is definitely worth the paint stains and stick glue on your fingers! Get creative on your day off and add something new to your collection!

5. Plan a city adventure

How well do you know your city? Plan a walk around the neighborhood, adventure to different parts of the city, or try that new restaurant on the other side of town! The possibilities are endless. You can even visit historical sites within your city and take a gander at shops you've never had the time to stop at. Odds are your city is full of wonderful things to discover. Get out there and find them!

6. Get a head start on next week

As much as we like to relax, sometimes it's even better to prepare. Completing your list of to-do's for next week can cut down on stress and keep your schedule nice and clean! Sometimes it's important to have a day of fun, but it is equally important not to overload your schedule! Life can easily pile up, cut down on the clutter and get a head start on the week ahead! Your future self will thank you for the extra downtime and manageable schedule!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
