It is a new year, and we just welcomed 2018. You know what that means?! Everyone is making New Years Resolutions. Many of us make resolutions every year but rarely accomplish them. Here are the steps you need to set more realistic New Years Resolutions and to actually achieve them!

1. Make your resolutions more specific

The more specific your resolutions are the more attainable they will be. Instead of saying you want to eat more healthy, you could say you want to eat fruit every day. Instead of saying you want to exercise more, you could say that you want to go to the gym three times a week. Lastly, if your resolution was that you wanted to be a nicer person, you could narrow it down to volunteering at the animal shelter more. Narrow your resolutions down where they aren't as broad, that way you can have a vision of what you need to do to accomplish them.

2. Divide each resolution into smaller, more reachable goals

Divide each of your resolutions into two or three smaller goals, in order to create an action plan of how you are going to reach them.

3. After breaking your resolutions down into smaller goals, give each goal a deadline

Take each of your three goals and give them a deadline of when you want to accomplish them by. For example, if you want to write a novel, set a deadline for you to get an outline done, and set deadlines for each of the chapters as well.

4. Reflect on why you want to achieve your resolutions

Write in a journal or even just think about why you want to achieve your goals. This will help you visualize and help you get the motivation to take the steps necessary to accomplish your resolutions.

5. Reward yourself when ever you reach a new goal, on the way to achieving your resolutions

Whenever you reach one of your goals that you set to reach your resolution, reward yourself. Let yourself eat something unhealthy that you love, let yourself binge watch Netflix, or even buy something that you haven't bought in awhile. Every once in awhile it is okay to eat an unhealthy ice cream bar or to splurge and buy something, as long as you do it in moderation. Rewarding yourself will give you something to look forward to and it will give you more fight, to fight for what you want, to accomplish this year's resolutions.

6. Celebrate when you achieve your resolutions

Yes! You have accomplished one of your resolutions! What do you do now?! Celebrate by going on an adventure or outing, splurging on a bigger ticket item, or even being lazy all day.

7. Remember it is okay, to slip up every now and then

We all are human and we all have our days where we want to sit on the couch and do nothing. No one is perfect, so we all will slip up sometimes and stray away from our goals and resolutions, but that is okay. If you eat really badly one day and stray off of your diet, get back onto your diet the next day. If you don't drink enough water one day, get back on track the next day. If you don't workout one day, workout harder the next day. It is never too late to accomplish your resolutions, never give up!

8. Mix the things you want to do with the things you need to do to reach your New Years Resolutions

So you want to binge watch your favorite shows on Netflix or watch a movie, or listen to your favorite music? Do that while you do your workout for the day. If you mix something you love with something you need to do to accomplish your resolution, working out, etcetera won't seem like such a chore.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
