It is a very large task, I know. And it's most definitely a lot to ask of yourself. How can you save the whole world with just you?

A great, and candid question.

There's a lot of stuff happening right now, and not much of it is good. So with that being the case, it is probably a better time than ever to learn how you can single-handedly save humanity.

And really it all starts with you.

There's nothing necessary about something big and flowery to show your bravery. The thing is, there's a little bit of save-the-world in everybody, you just have to realize it. And sometimes that little save the world is what is keeping you going.

So how does one tap into this little bit of saving the world? Glad you've asked:

1. Kindness. Sometimes you've gotta grasp that little bit of gentleness and patience that you have somewhere left inside of you. The kindness to stop and listen when its hard and you want to speak. The understanding kindness of true altruism.

2. Courage. There's something so endearing about being daring. You must be kind, but you must also be fearlessly stern. Stay set in something. Even if the world is falling down around you, and things are looking pretty bleak, it's about being able to look the storm in the eye and having the courage to wait for it to pass. And having the courage to know that it will pass. You do not get anywhere in the world bending to the superficial wants of others. So courageously stand for something.

3. Hope. It takes a whole lot of faith to continue doing something that you believe in or to even believe in something in general --especially when it seems like the entire world is against you. Yet there is something so lovely in having faith in something. In having faith in everything.

4. Action. I will put all of my weight behind how actions speak volumes louder than words ever will. If you want something done, you've gotta do it. No one is going to know when the time is right for you. But you will know when the timing is right. And once you see it, then you've got to steal the moment. There's nothing more pressing than the art of doing.

5. You. You are not responsible for saving the entire world. Sometimes saving your own world is just enough. And that is just as commendable. Sometimes, it is even more so than saving the entire world. And for that, you are a hero to me.

For the record, this isn't a laundry list of must-haves for the justice fighting season. On the contrary, this is a guide for us to find ourselves at the door of opportunity. So that at some point along the short timeline that we have here on earth, the opportunity will show its candid self and remind us that we still have work to do. Not for the sake of ourselves, but for the sake of something bigger, and for the sake of putting our gentle lives down for the harsh world of another's.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
