How to Save Money on Your Electric Bill in the Winter

In This Article:

It's wintertime and you know what that means—cold days and even colder nights. Before you know it, you're cranking up the heat every day.

But then…you receive your electric bill. It's in the high triple digits and you nearly faint.

Something has to change. To ensure you're saving money during the winter months, keep reading for some tips to keeping warm and toasty without breaking the bank!

Get Your HVAC Serviced

When it's cold, your heater is cranked up and down constantly. All that can lead to a lot of wear and tear on your machine.

That said, be sure to schedule an HVAC technician to come out and conduct maintenance on your system. They'll make sure everything's functional and working properly.

Bundle Up

When indoors, you want to be comfy. But that shouldn't include walking around in shorts and a tank top.

To avoid using your heat too much, dress warmly when inside. And have plenty of blankets within reach.

If you have animals, leave some blankets in various places so they can curl up and keep warm too.

Upgrade Your Thermostat

Have an outdated thermostat? If that's the case, the readings and temperatures won't regulate properly.

Your thermostat says one thing when the temperature inside the house says another.

To avoid racking up the costs, upgrade to a smart thermostat. This will give you better readings and an overall better way to regulate the inside temperature.

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
