If your experience of midterms week, aka the week before spring, is anything like mine, you're probably just itching to get out of your dorm room. Going home to your "real" room for a week probably sounds great, but what happens when you get back to school and suddenly HATE your dorm room?!

A tale as old as time, college students across the country become tired of the same old room they've been living in since their parents helped them decorate in August. If this applies to you, here are some tips to help spruce up your dorm room and keep your zen going through the final months of school!

1. Find some funky posters on red bubble

A change that's not too severe, getting some cool posters online is a great way to instantly change up your dorm room! Whether it's a poster of your favorite band, a print of a cool piece of art, or even a handmade drawing, changing around your wall decorum can completely change the mood of a room!

Try moving around anything you already have on your walls and placing new things on them, this will create a whole new feel!

2. Put up new pictures

Similar to hanging up new posters, after almost of year of living in the same room it might be time to put up new pictures. If you're anything like me, you've taken a million pictures since the start of school...print them out at your local CVS and get to hanging! Adding new pictures to your room creates a fresh landscape for your eyes to look at, not to mention it's a great conversation starter for when new guests come over!

3. Change the lighting

While most dorms don't allow candles and other flammable objects, a safe bet to change up the mood of your room is to get some new lighting! Bringing a cool lamp from home or hanging up some string lights around the perimeter of your room can add a glow that NO ugly hospital-looking dorm light could match. You could also add a cool neon light, which doubles as wall decor and will help set the mood of your new, funky space.

4. Rearrange furniture

Even though most dorm rooms have limited space, it's still probably possible to move around the desk, bed, and dresser that come as "essentials" in your room! Changing the position of your bed or switching around the positioning of your room can give you a whole different feel! Play around with the furniture and remember, if you don't like it, just move it back!

5. Add new throw pillows

A simple an inexpensive change, an easy way to tie together your room and live in optimal coziness is to spruce up your bed! Find some cool new pillows, a funky blanket, or even a new bed spread and your whole room could look completely different! Having a clean room and a freshly made bed is one of my favorite things, and I love playing around with which throw pillows best tie in the theme of my whole room!

In conclusion, coming back from spring break just got a little more exciting! Now go home, get some rest, and get to planning your rooms spring cleaning re-boot!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
