It's 10 p.m. on a Sunday night. You've slept all day in order to recover from the weekend. You then realize you have a paper to write, an assignment due online, and an exam later in the week. You feel overwhelmed, stressed and find yourself wanting to crawl back into bed. That's college for you.
Late nights, early mornings and days full of class, work and more work. You find yourself having trouble balancing your social life with your school work. You worry about money. You miss you family. You miss your friends from home and you feel like your life is a mess. Trust me, we have all been there.
Sometimes we let stress get the best of us. We let it take over our lives and lead us into bad places when it doesn't need to. Sometimes you have to just sit back, prioritize things and remember that everything will be okay. There are things you can do to get rid of stress and here they are.
Let your feelings out.
Take a night, sit down with your friends and vent. Talk about every little thing that's bothering you. Getting your feelings out and coming to terms with how you feel is the first step to fixing your problems.
Do something you enjoy.
Watch a movie, work out, go out to eat, call your family. Doing something you love can get your mind off of the bad. Getting away from things and doing something that makes you happy can lead to a better day.
Take a deep breath.
When you're stressed and are in the middle of your day, take a second and stop. Stop what you're doing, take a breath and get yourself together. Simply breathing deeply can calm you, even if it's just for a short period of time, it can help.
Laugh a little.
Watch a funny movie, hang out with your friends and let yourself laugh. Laugh until you cry. It'll help. I promise.
Focus on the present.
Tomorrow will get here when it gets here. Until then, focus on the now. Focus on what you have to do today. Put all of your focus on it, give it your time and energy. It will make things better in more than one way. You will be able to perform better, you will feel less overwhelmed and the stress will slowly but surely slip away.
Life is hard, we all know this. Everyone has their responsibilities. Everyone worries about things. Work, school, a social life, and finances are just a few of the many things we all worry about each and every day.
Stress is a real thing and it can really change the way people look at life. The solution is to tackle it. Focus on the good things in life and don't let stress get the best of you. Do things you love, spend time with the people you love and make the best out of every single day. Stress will always be there, but it's up to you to stay positive and make every day a good one.
