Let's talk about frustration. Whether you're frustrated with a person or a situation, everyone deals with it from time to time. The question is often asked, "How can I relieve my frustration without hurting anyone else?" While the answer to completely relieving your frustration isn't simple, there are simple ways to help get you through this week.
1. Workout
One of the best ways to relieve frustration is to engage in physical activity. Some of the most satisfying workouts to help you relieve this frustration I've found are: rock climbing, running, and swimming. There are other physical activities that'll relieve the stress differently for different people, but engaging the whole body is key.
2. Listen to music
If working out most effectively isn't an option because of injury, time of day, etc., listening to music is a close second. The music choice doesn't always matter so much as the volume. One of the reasons music can help you cope so well is due to its ability to get someone lost in a world of their emotions, so turn your volume up just enough for you to tune out everything and everyone else. Through music, you can be understood.
3. Talk it out
By talking it out with a trusted friend and having someone there to listen to you, it helps you relieve stress and not feel as alone in your thoughts. One of the worst possible things you could do in a time of frustration would be to keep it all inside.
4. Write it out
If there seems to be no one to talk to or you just want to keep the situation to yourself, writing it out is almost as helpful as talking it out. A pro to write it out over of talking it out would definitely be that there's no reason to hold back for fear of taking it out on someone else. Let your emotions be screamed by the words of your pen that your mouth could never say.
5. Distract yourself
Videos, memes, friends, events. Anything that gets you up and moving will distract you from the situation. If it's a situation where you're waiting for an answer, then distraction is definitely the way to go.
6. Just Breathe
Go for a walk. Different from working out, going for a walk is more on the calming side of things. Having enough alone time to walk and see the sky, feel the chill of the breeze, and breathe is so important. It clears your mind and helps you fear less about the future.
Before making any decisions when you're frustrated, you need to acknowledge the situation. Whether you are right in your frustrations or not, the feeling is still there. Channel your frustration into exercise, not throwing things. Let yourself be understood, not criticized. Speak words instead of keeping it inside. Don't let the problem take over your thoughts. Just breathe.
