"Feelin' 20 Fun"

How To Properly 'Do' Your 21st Birthday

Happily and finally, I turned 21 this Wednesday. After all of my friends turning 21 before I did, I knew what I wanted my 21st birthday to be. Even though it was a Wednesday, I wanted to have fun and make everyone's time enjoyable. However, as many people may know, a birthday never really lasts one day, it will last a weekend or a week. For me, it will last through the weekend. And here is how you do it.

First, you must have the joy of going to your local DMV for your license. For me, I was worried I was going to be given papers since Illinois just transferred over to that policy the last week of June. I did not want to wait up to 45 days to get my physical license because there is nothing better than taking the "new license selfie". I know I did it when I turned sixteen and I wanted to be able to when i turned twenty-one. Luckily, I was one of the first people in the DMV, so no one was allowed to be cranky yet. Along with that, I wasn't in there for any more than 20 minutes, and it was GREAT. And the best of all I GOT MY PHYSICAL LICENSE IN HAND!

Second, GET ALL YO FRANS! Everyone wants to be surrounded by people they love on their birthday and I was lucky enough to have most of mine! In order to properly do your 21st, you must get your first legal drink. Mine was a Guava Margarita, and it was phenomenal. Can't forget my chilled shot of Patron (my fave)! Also, what is a birthday without dessert? Thanks to Uncle Julio's in Naperville, I was able to enjoy their Chocolate Piñata instead of cake! It was a totally different spin on any other dessert!

Then, what is a 21st birthday without purchasing your first bottle of alcohol. First, you must narrow down your favorites from what you want to try. I decided to go with the Angry Orchard Summer Variety Pack and Bacardi Dragon Berry. I was able to get what I wanted to try from the Summer Variety Pack and found what I knew I liked all in one stop. It is also pretty cool being carded for the first time! (And a little awkward...)

Next, You must plan a mini trip which includes bar hopping. Family in Milwaukee invited me up to go bar hopping and it was SO FUN (and less expensive than downtown, that was a plus). Being able to try so many different places and different types of alcohol was such a great experience. Some people sucked, but once everyone heard it was my birthday, "Wooooo!"'s and "SHHHOOOOTTTSSS!!!!" absorbed every bar.

Finally, you must thank all of your friends and family for all that they have done for you. So, here is my public thank you. To everyone who went out of their way to wish me a happy birthday, to everyone who came to dinner, to my parents, to my family, to my boyfriend's family and especially my boyfriend, THANK YOU FOR MAKING MY 21ST BIRTHDAY SO INCREDIBLY SPECIAL! I am so thankful for everyone.

And that my friends, is How To Properly "Do" Your 21st Birthday.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
