How To Prepare For Classes And Returning To College Life After Break

After a long break away from classes, returning to Wake Forest isn't always the easiest feat. Sure, you're hopefully caught up on sleep by now, but leaving behind the comfort of your family home to return to dorm life can be challenging; not to mention, you're about to be thrown into the chaos of syllabus week.

So here are some helpful tips that can help you ease into college life and to start your semester off on the right foot.

1. Make sure your class schedule is set, and try to get off the wait-list for classes you want to get into by emailing your professors.

2. Buy your books online to save money.

3. Unpack your bags from home sooner than later.

4. Re-stock your fridge with your favorite snacks and beverages.

5. Get your school supplies like notebooks and lab-notebooks before the first day of class.

6. Map out your routes to class and/or figure out where your classrooms are located.

7. Print out your syllabi.

8. Check your e-mail and stay alert for any reminders from professors to complete assigned work before the first day of class. You don't want to be "that kid."

9. Make an easy-access reference list of when your professors' office hours are and where their offices are located.

10. Tidy up your room and clean off the dust that has accumulated over break.

11. Give your updated schedule to any family's for whom you babysit so they know your availability.

12. Start crafting for your Little if you're in a sorority.

13. Hit up your friends who you haven't seen for a while over break.

14. Put your classes in your Google Calendar to get alerts on your phone to remind you of your priorities no matter how busy you get.

15. Mentally prepare yourself for the whirlwind of school work that's coming your way.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
