How To Prepare For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Now that October has arrived, we can officially embrace all of the amazing things that fall has to offer. But it also means we should be aware of something a lot more important … Saving the Tatas. Sometimes, we get so wrapped up in the approaching holiday season, between pinning “Cute DIY Fall Crafts” for our apartments or trying to find the perfect Halloweekend outfit, that we forget October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Have no fear – if you’re looking to help Save the Tatas this October, there are tons of different ways you can make a difference.

1. Make a Donation

Instead of spending all of your bills on Pumpkin Spiced Lattes, put aside a few bucks that you’d be spending at Starbs in a jar. At the end of the month, donate your spare change to the Breast Cancer fund of your choosing. Not only will it make a huge difference (you’d be surprised how much we spend on those fattening drinks), it will save you a ton of calories (Summer Bod 2016, here I come!)

2. Sign up to Walk

Like I said, Summer Bod- here we come! Walking For the Cure is a great way to spend the day with friends and give back. Get a bunch of your girls to sign up and walk together – find a walk near you ASAP, because they’re so much fun to be a part of!

3. Don't forget to give yourself a check-up.

Keep up with your mammograms, ladies! It’s also pretty easy to give yourself an examination at home – there are tons of online videos on how to give yourself a quick check-up. Also, men tend to discover lumps on their significant other just as often, so tell your man to be just as aware!

4. Host an event.

Many people host events to benefit breast cancer, and they can be literally anything. Whether you throw a tournament of some sort, concert, wine tasting, cocktail party, pumpkin picking, or race, you can host your own event to raise money for breast cancer. What better ways to celebrate fall than by spending time with your besties for a great cause?

5. Wear Pink.

Let other people know that you support Breast Cancer Awareness! After all, isn’t that how trends start? When one person sees you sporting your “Save the TaTa’s” t-shirt, they become aware, and this could lead to all of your friends gearing up in pink just like you. Whether it’s a t-shirt, hat, bracelet, etc., sport your pink and let everyone know that you’re aware and supporting Breast Cancer. And not to mention, most of your favorite, well-known companies come out with special edition Breast Cancer gear (i.e. North Face, Nike, Under Armour, etc.) so if you’re shopping at your favorite stores, be sure to score some of the newest pick-ups. Usually, a portion of the sale goes toward research anyway, so you can feel a lot less guilty about going on a shopping binge, knowing that your money is going somewhere useful.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
