How To Play 'True American'

"It's more like 75% drinking game, 25% Candy Land. By the way, the floor is molten lava."

If you're a true new girl fan you know about True American, here's how to play:

Set up the castle: The castle is pretty simple; it is made up of beer cans and a bottle of liquor in the center. Line up the beers in four lines coming outward from the bottle of liquor.

Set up the zones: There are 4 zones, set up a trail of chairs, cushions, and tables through each zone to give you something to walk on, as the floor is lava. The castle should be in the middle of the zones. The four paths should reach the castle

Picking teams: Countdown from 3, everyone holds up a number against their foreheads and anyone who is holding up the same number as you is on your teams. If someone isn’t matched then those two players can team up.

To start the game: Start with every player shot-gunning a beer, then one player chants “one, two, three, four, JFK” and everyone responds “FDR” then everyone must run to the castle, grab a beer and pick the nearest object to stand on. The winner of the shot-gunning contest gets the first move, then the order continues around in a clockwise rotation.

Making moves: When it is your turn you will move one space and then you will pick one of the three games, the winner of the game will move accordingly and then it is the next player’s turn. There are 3 different ways to get closer to the castle

  1. Guessing something in common: A player names two things that have something in common and the other player yells out something that they have in common. For example, in one episode a player yells “Abe Lincoln, George Washington” and “cherry tree” is the answer. The player to guess cherry tree gets to drink and move three spaces.
  2. Count up: A player must count “One, two, three, four” and on four all players put a number up to their head. I’m not sure how this leads to a player moving but I would play whichever player is not matched with someone is allowed to move one space.
  3. A quote: The player begins a quote and all the others must complete the quote. Whoever completes it first, gets to drink and move two spaces.

Winning: Continue to play until all the beers have been removed and all that is left is the “king.” Once one player reaches the “king” by being in a center space and sips from the bottle, then this player becomes the winner of true American!

Losing: If you are caught without a beer or if you step in the lava you lose and are out of the game. To get back into the game you have to shotgun a beer on a space that the other players decide.

Random Rules:

-You can only get a beer if you are on one of the four center spaces

-If you are playing with Clinton rules then this includes stripping if you fail at one of the three mini-games.

-Any player may yell “JFK” at any time in which everyone must yell “FDR” and finish their beer

The game is confusing but super fun! Here is also a video explaining it a little more:

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
