I flew down to balmy Tampa to shoot Metrocon again this year, and as always, it was a blast. Shooting the photos for the raves is always a really fun challenge, and I brought along my trusty D750 and Sigma 20mm f/1.4 ART. Let's dig in.

I try to work with the distortion of wide lenses. One way I do this is by positioning myself at a low angle to slim down the subjects I'm shooting.

This year we added aerial performers, and they were fun to shoot. The lighting and framing were tricky, but I try to pay attention to the lights as they pass to get the color that I want.

I use fast shutter speeds to freeze movements. Because of that, focusing can be hard due to wide apertures being a necessity.

I pay attention a lot to the composition of the shots, and when two people are performing together, I like to grab a shot behind them in different focal planes.

Lighting is really fun (though unpredictable) to utilize. Timing is key.

The performers are really good about posing for the shots, which is incredibly helpful.
