Being a freshman in college comes with many challenges. First off, if you dorm on campus or off campus without your parents around, you will have to start learning how to live on your own. You have to learn how to cook your own food and how to do your own laundry. You will have to learn how to keep yourself organized for all your classes. Having a planner is VERY important. Even though I am a commuter, some of these challenges and several others are hard to overcome. How can you maintain five classes and a part time job with loads of homework? I mean it isn't that hard if you manage your time right and keep up with your planner.
The biggest challenge for commuters is trying to find a parking spot on campus. If you don't get to campus early enough, you are going to have to search for a parking spot. Once you leave that parking spot, there is no chance that it is still going to be there when you get back. If you're lucky, you will find one close enough to where you need to be. If not, well, it sucks because you have to walk 10-15 minutes to where you need to be in all kinds of weather, but they do offer shuttle rides if you'd prefer to take that.
Another challenge for commuters is making some friends. For commuters it is much harder because you're not being forced to live with people you don't know. So you have to join clubs and organizations and start to put yourself out there in order to make yourself some good friends. Not everybody is going to want to be your friend though so don't push it.
