Do you ever just feel like sometimes you meet the greatest people at the worst time? Maybe when you're visiting a foreign country for the week, or next to you on the plane. Everywhere I go, I seem to meet some pretty interesting people that I wish I had a longer period of time to get to know.
One of my favorite things to do is to travel with friends or have spontaneous adventure nights. Over this past summer, one of my best friends and I traveled to Canada and met some really fun and sweet people that we were with from 9 pm- 5 am.
There is something intriguing about meeting people that have a completely different lifestyle than you but still have similar passions and interests. Learning about new places and hearing others stories is honestly so rewarding.
Next time you meet someone new, ask them about their favorite childhood memory, most embarrassing moment or ideal adventure spot. You can really learn a lot by asking questions and listening.
Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to someone, they might be very friendly and helpful and if they aren't- hey you got a great story there! Putting yourself out there doesn't always work but when it does you might have a great connection.
In middle school, I was more introverted and kept to myself. Through my involvement in high school clubs, sports and activities I became more extroverted and more willing to go the extra mile to befriend someone.
Now, through various classes, job opportunities and involvement on campus I feel like I can reach out to a variety of students.
College especially is a breeding ground to meet people from all over the country. I am so thankful for all of the opportunities to meet new people that introduce me to different experiences. I can't wait to explore the city over break and bump into people that might become close friends one day.
Whoever you meet, keep in touch with them; you never know if you might run into them again- when you need a travel buddy or need help with your Turkish linguistics homework.
