When you move into your dorm room at college, it can seem bland, boring, and maybe even scary. It's probably smaller than your room at home, you have to share the space, and it gets cluttered. Here are some ways that you can make yourself feel cozy and at home in your dorm room.
1. Decorate.
Hang up some posters or artwork. Get a couple strands of Christmas tree lights and hang those. Get a bunch of small prints of photos and make a collage on your wall. Whatever you like to decorate your room with, do it. It'll look a lot less plain and boring.
2. Keep a lot of food in your room.
Keep a stash of all the food and snacks in your room that you like or would normally eat at home, or at least whatever food can be put in a microwave. Sometimes you won't want to walk all the way to the dining hall, and you'll get sick of having the same food from there all the time too. It's nice to have some comfort food around for when you're studying or if you're not in the mood for mediocre dining hall food.
3. Get some plants.
Get some potted plants. They're pretty and bring a little more life into your dorm room. Plants like succulents and cacti don't usually need much maintenance and are easy to care of.
4. Make your room smell nice.
I would suggest candles, but most colleges don't allow candles in the dorm rooms. However, Bath and Body Works sells Wallflowers that you can plug into the wall, and there are similar products in other stores too. It's nicer when your room smells like salted caramel or pumpkin spice rather than when your room smells like ramen noodles and burnt popcorn.
5. Get lots of blankets and pillows for your bed.
Dorm room beds are thin and can be uncomfortable. Get a lot of pillows and blankets to curl up with and keep you warm and cozy. You should probably invest in a mattress pad and an egg crate pad to make your bed feel less lumpy and weird, too.
