I'm not going to lie. When my day is rough, I can be the first one to hop on the negativity train and be grumpy all day, but why? I think this something a whole lot of people struggle with for a somewhat simple reason.

When we are having a decent day and something bad happens it's just a human reaction to be a bit bummed out, but we tend to take it to the next level and allow it to ruin our entire day, which is exactly where the line needs to be drawn.

Instead of moping and ruining the rest of your day when you're in a slump, take a quick break, calm yourself down, and think about a these simple, yet useful, things that are able to make almost anyone smile!

1. Animals!

Mara Hashuga

I'm pretty sure there are not too many people who don't enjoy at least one type of animal. You might not be the average dog-lover or cat-person, but there's an animal out there for just about everyone. Even if you don't like physically being around an animal, you can still watch some funny YouTube videos!

2. Funny movies

Sure, dramas can be interesting and suspenseful, but there's nothing wrong with sitting down and letting yourself enjoy a good rom-com once in a while!

3. Listening to upbeat music

Mara Hashuga

I definitely know that being upset or angry just makes you want to listen to a relatable mopey song, but it's times like these that you need to just press play on fun, happy music. It'll really boost your mood and after the first song or two, you can just jam out and work on forgetting whatever happened.

4. Having a good old therapy session in the passenger seat of your friends car

What's better than this, especially when the windows are down and breeze is in your hair?

5. A beautiful sunset

You have to have some good timing for this one, but if you can catch the nice orange and purple sunset once in a while, be sure to really take it in and appreciate it.

6. Putting yourself out there

Who knows what to expect while doing this? It can result in new friends, great memories, and a good time.

7. Family

Mara Hashuga

This can be biological or not, but sometimes you just need to talk, and who better to talk to than family? When life gets tough, talk to those that you know will always be there for you.

8. Meditating

As someone who has recently begun to do this, I can say meditation is a great way to calm yourself whether you have a regular schedule or just use it as a way to calm yourself here and there.

9. Slime/Sand videos

This one is more of a stress reliever, but they honestly help a lot. It can just be calming to watch them sometimes!

10. Watch old home videos

It can be hard to have that carefree attitude you used to as a young child, but you can always re-watch some old videos and try to remember how you felt. Just by watching that simple, thoughtless you running around in your backyard, you can really make a difference in your own day.

11. Have a good old conversation with Siri

Sure, it's a bit on the immature side, but it'll get a laugh out of you. Whether you find out information or just get to have a conversation with a computer, it's still an interesting thing to try.

12. Make a change

Whether this is something big or small, changing something in your life brings a new vibrancy to it. Dye your hair, paint your nails, or even just try something new. It makes you feel different, which, if you're unhappy, is a good thing

13. Eat. A lot.

Mara Hashuga

Nothing wrong with taking a little break from your diet and indulging! A carb-filled, sugary day once in a while never killed anyone!

14. Read a good book.

Mara Hashuga

Some aren't a fan of reading, but for those who are, I know it's easy to get caught up in other work and forget to let yourself enjoy a book once in a while, but even if it's just a few short hours, let yourself have this luxury even if it's just here and there.

15. Ask others what makes them smile.

I've said this many times, but happiness is contagious. Often times while telling you what makes them smile, a person will begin to smile as well and it will easily become infectious. Don't be afraid to spread some positivity.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
