How To Make Hummingbird Food

Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.

Making hummingbird food is pretty easy and a great way to attract cute hummingbirds (and other not-so-cute birds) to your garden or backyard.

First, gather and mix your ingredients. What are your ingredients? Just sugar and water! It’s that easy. A 1:4 ratio of sugar to water makes sure most of the sugar will be dissolved.

Second, heat up the mix. Two minutes or so should do the trick. Just put it in a microwave-safe container and heat it up in the microwave. That should dissolve all the sugar.

Next, just let the mix cool. You’ll want it completely cool (like me) before you put it in the feeder. Hummingbirds don’t like hot food.

Then, you’re almost done.

Gently pour the food into your feeder. Do this outside, so when you make a mess, it doesn’t attract any critters indoors.

Put the feeder back outside on your window and you’re done! Now all the cute, tiny hummingbirds will know you’re the place with the good food.

Enjoy the humming visitors!

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
