How To Make Finals A Little More Enjoyable

Finals are just around the corner and everyone I have talked to is getting that stressed sound in their voice and a large wrinkle on their forehead—including myself. It is not the most attractive look either. Now, from the looks of it, I think everyone needs to destress and make a game plan here. This will be overwhelming. Yet I know we can make it more manageable if we use some of these tips:

Get Cozy

We must at least try to get into the mood and mindset of studying. For me at least, this means getting cozy. Put on some sweats and slippers and snuggle up in a blanket. Maybe grab some tea (or coffee, if you're one for caffeine). This makes studying slightly more enjoyable when I am comfortable and ready to focus.

Space Out Your Time

It is nearly impossible for most people to focus for hours on end. Rather, we must attempt to space out our time evenly over the course of days, if possible. This makes it much easier to focus by studying in fragments where we can actually let most of the material sink in. Overall, spacing out your study time tends to be much more productive.

Plan Ahead

One of the more stressful parts of studying for finals is not always the studying part. It can be the "I have a million other things to do" part. I love to make a list of things I have to do, prioritize and place them under each day of the week on a sheet of paper. This allows me to plan the blocks of time I'll have for studying, while also incorporating all the other tasks I must do that week.

Take A Break

You need to take breaks. Your mind will not be able to focus on this forever. Take a moment to check social media, have a snack or watch some Netflix. Some prefer to take a nap. Personally, I love to call someone who calms me down. I can get so overworked while studying and talking to someone can help to alleviate that stress and focus on something lighter for a change. This can usually bring a smile to your face too.

Change Of Scenery

The same place to study can become so dull and boring for your mind to handle. Do yourself a favor and change up the scene. Go to a coffee shop or the library. Sometimes this can ignite a fire and second wind in you to get through the next few sections you planned to accomplish.

Some Late Nights Won't Kill You

Pain is temporary. GPA is forever. Get through those tough nights. It'll be worth it in the end. Plus, you have all of winter break to catch up on sleep.

Reward Yourself

Be proud! Focusing is not easy for most of us. Set goals along the way and make sure to reward yourself! Maybe a special treat or fun activity. Just do something you would look forward to during studying and will help you to decrease stress and smile too.

I hope this helped make you ready to conquer finals this semester! Good luck everyone!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
