Let's face it - what you wear to class may sound like a petty thing, but it's a big deal. We want to be comfortable because, well, it's class, and class is (most of the time) at least somewhat boring. Most people usually choose comfort over style, but let's face it - there are days when we want to look better than others, whether it's because of the cute guy that sits in front of you or because you want to show off your style to the girl that stole your parking spot last week to let her know who she messed with. However, it's a constant struggle to wake up every weekday (for those of us who are not fortunate enough to have no Friday classes) and answer the question that is constantly haunting us: "What do I wear to class?" Plus, some teachers appreciate and sometimes even favor those who dress nicely to class, because some teachers think that student's attire shows that a student cares about their education.
So being the shopaholic, Fashion Board, fashion interning girl that I am, I have put together tips I have learned over the years on how to look stylish (or at least somewhat cute) in class, while still having the comfort that will get you through the chore of going to class.
1. Plan what you want to wear the night before.
Planning what you want to wear the night before is always a great idea, because if you already have your outfit planned before you fall asleep I can pretty much guarantee you will be more likely to wear it and it will make your morning routine easier the next day. This can also give you about ten extra minutes of sleep, and isn't that what we all want out of life?! So go ahead take a little bit of time at night to figure out what you want to wear before you fall asleep, and it will go a long way.
2. Get some basic tops, it's not as basic as it sounds.
Basic tops are actually the best. They are very underappreciated, and that needs to change! I love being able to wake up in the morning and throw on a V-Neck from Target because they are very comfortable, affordable, cute, and easy to accessorize with. It's the perfect kind of top for going to class.
3.Jewelry in neutral colors (especially simple and minimalist jewelry).
Adding jewelry to a simple V-Neck can really dress it up. It's not uncomfortable to wear a simple necklace, and most necklaces won't get in the way of trying to type or write notes. Buying jewelry in colors that match lots of clothing in your wardrobe can make your money stretch and make you feel like your purchase was worth it, thus lifting the weight of buyer's remorse off of your shoulders. I mean, if Beyonce says "put a ring on it," you just might want to consider accessorizing.
4. Invest in some cute workout/"athletic" clothing.
Now don't get me wrong - I am all about comfort when it comes to clothing. Nowadays, athletic clothing is becoming so stylish that I love it! Lots of cute athletic clothes can be found for good prices at places like Target, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls. Lots of athletic clothing comes in great-looking patterns and are meant to provide comfort, which is perfect for class and for when you're on the go.
5. Wear Converse.
Converse are probably the most comfortable shoes a girl can wear, and you can wear them with just about everything (I mean I wore them to at least four date parties). So when you're trying to dress up for class, you don't have to complain about not finding any shoes that go well with your cute wardrobe, because chances are, there is most likely a pair of Converse in the color you want and it will probably go well with your outfit.
6. Pinterest.
Pinterest is a blessing. Pinterest has so many tips and links to finding cheap clothes, fashion blogs, and even ways to make your own outfits and clothes! It's amazing. So if you do not have a Pinterest (which I really hope you do) go make one now and start pinning all the clothes you love! Then you can order those clothes or try to find something similar to it in stores near you. Pinterest is the best place to help develop and find creative solutions to any ideas or questions you might have, especially when it comes to your wardrobe.
7. Believe in yourself and have confidence.
In my opinion, joy is the most beautiful trait a person can have. If you believe in yourself and believe that you are the beautiful person that you already are, you will instantly feel better about your outfit and other people will probably think the same. So hold your chin up and believe in yourself. Like Annie says, "You're never fully dressed without a smile."
So hold your chin up, beautiful, and put on an outfit that makes you feel cute to class, and it just might make you feel better about your day.
