“The best things in life are free, the second best are very expensive.”
As a girl who has expensive taste and not always the expenses to match it, shopping is sometimes a challenge of having to figure out what to get, what isn't worth it and how to budget accordingly. Nonetheless, I refuse to settle on something that doesn't completely satisfy me. Here’s some tips on how to get exactly what you want without breaking the bank.
1. Do your research.
Questions include:
1. Is this a good, reliable brand for the price I’m about to pay?
2. Will I use this product a significant amount of times?
3. Does it fit me perfectly/is this the pattern I’ll use the most?
Above all else, you want your money to go toward something you’ll love, and you want to get the most bang for your buck.
2. Consignment stores are your friend.
You will be getting the exact same brand at a much cheaper price. I know that it may feel better and fancier coming from the store itself, but keep the long run in mind here. Head out to your nearest Ross, TJ Maxx or Marshall’s and get your shop on knowing that you’re being both a sassy and savvy spender.
3. Know when to choose a knock off vs. a designer purchase.
I know, I know. I am not a big fan of this tip or knock offs in general, but it really is key to distinguish what really makes a difference as a designer item and what doesn’t. Example of choice: Any reliable purse brand is an okay designer purchase. A portable cup is probably better off being a knock off.
4. Patience.
To be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of this one either, but it’s important. My designer brand of choice, Kate Spade, has surprise sales every month or so for 3 days of 75% off sale items. I’ve eyed purses for a year at a time to get them at these pop up sales, and it’s worth the wait every single time. I promise whatever article of clothing, piece of jewelry or accessory is, it will go on sale and make for one of the best sought-after moments there is.
All in all, you should never have to settle for less than what you want, nor should you have to feel like you’re living way too far beyond your means. You’re entitled to what you want, no matter what, so go make it happen.
