How To Let Go

How do you let go of something that was so real to you?

How To Let Go
Maggie Cretens

Have you invested a little too much time into someone who you thought could be the one? After years of back and forth — a few months of silence — was finally a wake-up call to realize it’s not meant to be. Where do you go from there? Up until that point everything you’d known was based on this belief that everything was A-OK and things were going to work out. You just assumed he was just really busy.

Then BAM! Reality slapped you in the face. He’s not texting you because he doesn’t have free time, he’s not freeing his time for you. The question is this: How do you let go of something that was so real to you for a period of time? Letting go is accepting, and to me, accepting means a few things.

Accepting means understanding it’s time to move forward. If you think, he will, “wake up and realize you’re the one for him,” you’ve got your head in the clouds. Waiting for anything or anyone is a big mistake because think of how much waiting and effort you have already put in.

Accepting means being thankful for the memories you made with this person. Maybe they were far from perfect, but to you they were everything. All of the laughs, and hugs made up for the unnecessary tears that were shed as a result of the final outcome.

Accepting means respecting the fact you can’t change anyone in any way shape or form. If your mission is to change anyone in any way you need to re think your life. You should never try to change anyone no matter what.

Accepting means empathizing for them — well at lest trying to. Sometimes you have to look beyond the words and excuses and realize who they really are. When you can emphasize and try to see it from their perspective I personally believe that helps with moving forward.

Accepting means finding the courage to walk away. Walking away from something you thought was so real is one of the hardest things to do in life. You want to believe in people and never give up but sometimes your hands are just tied and there is nothing more you can do. To me that is the writing on the wall for you saying its time to let go.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
