How To Kick Off Finals Week

Procrastination at its finest

How To Kick Off Finals Week

If you're like me, then procrastination is the air you breathe. You keep on putting things off and putting them off, all the while becoming more and more stressed. This becomes a major problem when Finals Week is fast approaching and the choice between no sleeping and lots of studying or lots of sleeping and lots of eating becomes much harder.

This semester, I was faced with an even more difficult decision when my best friend and I found out that The 1975 was coming to play a show in New Orleans the Sunday that started finals week. Tickets were only $50, and we were desperately trying to escape the chains of responsibility. After we checked each of our exam schedules to determine neither of us had tests on Monday, we ordered our tickets and continued our trek through the semester.

Finally, our tickets came and so did the day of the concert. We put down our books and set our sights on New Orleans for the concert, exams still in the back of our minds. We drove through New Orleans traffic, stood in line for two hours, and ran with a group of hundreds of other teenagers to be some of the closest to the stage in the pit when The 1975 took the stage. It was crowded and sweaty with the smell of illegal substances in the air, and we watched as a girl nearly passed out while Matty had to stop mid-song to make sure someone else who did pass out could be removed from the crowd. Matty danced across the stage, in that wonderful way that he does, to the screams of hundreds of sweaty teens. It was a beautiful experience to share with a friend and a perfect preview for Hangout Fest.

After the concert, we made our way back to Hattiesburg, and I proceeded to take three finals, eat one meal a day, and sleep a total of nine hours in one week. Oh, the joys of finals week.

Going to the concert may have put a little extra stress on the mountain of finals week, but it also provided a much needed escape. Sometimes the best thing to do is also one of the most irresponsible, so for all those out there enduring their own finals weeks, take a break from the all the studying, and do something irresponsible. Then get right back to work. You won't regret it.

Thank you to The 1975 for providing me an opportunity to be young and stupid, and thank you to my best friend, who I can always count on to be young and stupid with me.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
