How to Keep Cats Away from Rabbits

Cats are one of the many adorable animals in this world, but they can be vicious to their prey. Cats are born hunters, and they have the instinct to hunt the prey down. If you are someone who has rabbits as pets, then cats are a potential threat to your soft and cuddly bunny rabbit. We know how our pets are everything for us, and similarly, your rabbits are pampered by your constant love for them. To keep them safe and away from the dangers of a wild cat attacking them is stressful enough for you to take drastic steps. Rabbits come in the circle of the cat’s food chain. Getting along with cats can hurt loving rabbits, and you don’t want that. If you want to keep your pet rabbits loved and protected, then there are a few things you can do. Here is a list of how to keep cats away from rabbits. Follow the list and ensure a safe space for your valuable and loving pet bunnies.Get a Strong Hutch If you have outdoor bunnies, then you should invest in a solid and sturdy hutch for them. You can also build one on your own, adding all the protective features. You need a hutch covered from all four sides because cats like coming in from the top.Make sure you are investing in a hutch that is capable of withstanding a strong cat. Cats can be stronger than we imagine which is why you should be better safe than sorry. A wooden hutch with sturdy metal grilling and wire mesh will protect your rabbit from a neighborhood cat attack. Use Plants That Repel Cats There are plants that cats despise and don’t like to be around. You can plant them around your outdoor area where your rabbits live to repel cats. Some of these plants are known to repel cats and will help you out immensely. Plants such as Lemongrass, Lavender, Lemon Balm Tree, Coleus Canina, Citronella, etc., are not loved by cats because of their strong scent. Cats have strong smell senses, and when there is too much odor, cats usually avoid visiting that place and run away from it. Planting these plants in your backyard will give an excellent look to your place and simultaneously keep the unwanted cats away from your house, keeping your bunny rabbits safe. Water Sprinklers If there is one thing we know for sure about cats, they absolutely despise water and won’t go near it unless it’s for drinking. Water has the power to keep the cats away, and they will stop coming to your place altogether once they realize there’ll be water showers at your house. This may seem inhumane, but you have to do something if you know the cats will hurt the rabbits. You can find motion sensor water sprinklers on this page to scare away the cats. Simply install it in your garden. These motion sensor sprinklers automatically throw water on pets and will startle them. After a while, the cats will stop coming, and your rabbits will live a safe and healthy life. Another benefit of having these sprinklers is that they will keep your garden or backyard plants lush and healthy as well. Keep Your Rabbits Indoors Rabbits are ideal indoor pets, and you can keep them safer inside. Pet rabbits are comfortable with living indoors, and there is no need to keep them outside. You may have to litter train your rabbits, but they will be a lot safer with you inside as compared to being out in the open. If you have other pets inside your house, you need to train them to be friendly with your rabbits. It might surely take time, but you can live in peace with all your pets inside. Or else you can dedicate one room for your rabbits, but it is not preferred because the chances of other pets getting inside will still be there. So, it is best to introduce your pets to each other. These are some of the methods you can try to keep the neighborhood cats away from your rabbits. Not every cat will try and hurt your rabbit, so notice the cat behavior around your rabbits to figure out a solution. Also, never let your pet rabbits out in the open unattended. You or any other family member should always be around them to ensure safety at all times. Great responsibility comes on your shoulders when you decide to have a pet, and you will have to manage things. Best of Luck in making a cat-proof environment for your rabbits.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part.
