10 Ways To Host A Killer Girls Night

Is there a better way to spend a night in than with your best girlfriends?

Every once and a while, girls need to spend some quality time with their friends, instead of shoving their way into numerous frat houses with strangers. Hosting a bomb girls night is something that every friend group has to do at some point during the teenage years, so why not make the best of it? Here's exactly how to do it:

1. Stay away from boys

The whole purpose of a girls night is to spend time with your GIRL friends! It’s a time for you and your friends to forget about the boy who broke your heart, or avoid getting involved with a random at a party.

2. Throw on some sweats and a t-shirt

Yeah, you might have dressed cute for class, but who are you impressing afterward? We all know that jeans are uncomfortable, so put on some sweats, a baggy t-shirt, and RELAX!

3. Stock up on snacks

Ice cream, candy, chocolate, chips…you name it and add it to your snack collection. No one is going to judge you for eating an extra amount of junk food, so just live it up and go for it.

4. Have the pizza place on speed dial

Forget real food and call for pizza (despite the fact that I do consider it real food). There’s no better comfort food than pizza, and it makes any night in much better.

5. Stay off social media

Checking up on classmates, other friends, or that guy you’re trying to get over will not help matters. Stay off social media, even though it may be hard, but it will make you feel better. However, do cave for maybe five minutes to post that snapchat with your friends to show everyone you’re having a blast.

6. Rent a ton of movies

Talking to each other may get old at some point, so stock up on all the chick flicks. From 90’s hits like “Clueless” to modern movies like “John Tucker Must Die,” you and your friends can’t go wrong with any romantic comedy. DO NOT choose a sad movie. You’re not trying to spend your night sobbing over the death of your favorite character.

7. Paint each other’s nails

Since we all have a difficult time painting our own nails, why not paint each other’s? It’s way better to paint someone else’s nails and make them as perfect as possible rather than messing up your own. To add to the fun, look up designs and combine colors to make your nails look even better.

8. Play with makeup

Makeup is any girl’s guilty pleasure. Nothing makes us feel better than putting on a full face of makeup for no reason. My friend’s can attest to this, considering they spending almost an hour doing their makeup, just to take selfies and make themselves happy, and then quickly take it off so casually.

9. Blast music

Make a playlist, connect to your speaker, and play your music so loud that the whole building can hear it. Who cares if people tell you to keep it down, just enjoy the moment while listening to all your favorite, pump-up songs while dancing around like an idiot.

10. Really bond with your girlfriends

In the end, the ultimate purpose of a girls night is to bond with your girlfriends. Share secrets, tell jokes, or even cry if you have to. The best people to talk to are definitely your closest friends and are always willing to listen.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
