How To Grow Your Hair Back
Journey by a Lioness

Last month I needed to get my hair trimmed. Most people who know me know I have trust issues when it comes to getting my hair cut. Once in middle school it got cut way too short and I barely knew how to style it, so it wasn’t pretty. Because middle school isn’t awkward enough.

I wanted to grow it out, but I had a lot of breakage, so it was not growing anymore. I made an appointment to get a trim, but somehow it ended up in the hairdresser chopping like half of it off.

I tried to play it cool like I didn’t hate it, but I think she caught on. I asked her for tips on how to grow it back and here is what she suggested:

Do not wash your hair every day

You can still shower, but skip washing your hair. Shampoo can actually be more damaging to hair and cause more breakage. Instead use dry shampoo to get rid of oil and build up.

Use conditioner and rinse with cool water

When you do wash your hair, make sure you use conditioner. It keeps your hair hydrated and healthy. If you just used shampoo, it is painful and will cause more breakage in your hair. Rinsing with cool water will seal in the moisture that helps keep hair hydrated.

Coconut Oil Mask

Coconut oil is solid, but all you have to do is heat it up and it is oil. Then dampen your hair and apply the coconut oil. I do this once a week and let it sit for about half an hour. You can go longer if you want.

Avoid heat

Well, at least styling with heat products. For example, a straightener or curling iron/wand. If you need to use one, like I think I do, then invest in a heat protection spray. The heat will damage your hair and cause even more breakage.

Take a multivitamin

The way she explained this to me was, if you are healthy then your hair will be healthy. It also makes your hair stronger and less prone to breakage. Which if you have not noticed, breakage is the worst.

Sleep on a silk pillowcase

Finally, she said to sleep on a silk pillowcase instead of cotton one. I have yet to try this, but I have heard it is super helpful. I guess cotton pillowcases can cause more breakage than silk.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
