We've all be there, it sucks! Dating is all ups and downs, and side to side, and honestly, quite often a headache. Especially after a break up, no matter who ended it. But through several years of experience and LOTS of trial and error, I have compiled a list of steps to get over that guy in five days.
Day 1: Grieve...or whatever you feel.
You aren't going to just brush it off. So sleep in, eat all the Ben and Jerry's in your pajamas at 3pm while you press play on your Sex and the City binge. Of course it's totally okay to be so heartbroken you can't get out of bed, you're entitled to it...but only for one day. After that you can be heartbroken, but you still need to shower.
Day 2: Get up and function.
Go through your routine and do everything just like normal. Take a shower, get dressed, go to class, do some homework, and please eat something that isn't 100% carbs and sugar. You're still hurt, maybe pretty angry, but just take a day to remind yourself that you're still you and you are perfectly capable of functioning without him.
Day 3: Go do something for you.
Get your nails done, dye your hair that color you always wanted to but never did because he didn't like it. Or go chop it all off. Maybe get a new piercing or tattoo (if you're into that). Go do something that refreshes you and makes you feel super on top of the world. You're gorgeous, go make sure you feel it.
Day 4: Go out for a girls day.
Now that you're newly functioning and refreshed, get some girlfriends together and get out of the house. Retail therapy, mani-pedis, or a fun lunch at that new place downtown, it really doesn't matter. What matters is surrounding yourself with good vibes and the people who stand beside you no matter what.
Day 5: Get back in the game...or not.
It's probably not a good idea to go hunting for a new boyfriend. Seriously, don't do that. Be single for a while and enjoy it. However, in my experience, getting dressed up and going out and casually flirting with a cute guy works wonders for moving on.
I know it takes more than five days to truly move on, but it's a good start. You're too good to waste your precious time dwelling, so get a manicure and blow out and move on.
