It's a daily struggle of mine to decide if I want to go to the gym or not. It was always easier in high school because your more active with sports and other activities, so going to the gym was easy. Then you get to your freshmen year of college and you realize that you have so much freedom; why would you go to the gym when you can watch Netflix all day or hangout with your friends. I've learned as I've gotten older that yes it is a struggle to get myself to the gym, but once I am there and I am so happy that I did it.
Here's some tips for home exercisers who don't HAVE to go to the gym.
Challenge Yourself
Make yourself get up and be active because once you start doing it and seeing good results you will feel accomplished. Look online at different workouts you can do with just using a yoga mat. They're many fitness sites on YouTube ect. Even pictures can help and can help guide you for form and technique.
Do At Home Yoga
You can easily find your zen. They sell reasonable price yoga mats at target and watch a couple of "How To" videos and you'll be ready to go.
Aim For A 30 Minute Workout
For some people, 30 minutes can seem like a long time, but if you did a mixture of techniques time will fly by. Be sure your strength workout covers all major muscle groups, in your upper body, lower body, abdominals and back. Shoot for three sets of 10-15 repetitions of each strength exercise.
Start Gradually
No matter what type of exercise you do, be sure to start slowly and gradually increase your workout time and intensity. You can start with legs one day and the next do arms. Its good to switch off of different routines. For example, doing squats (with or without weights) works the quadriceps, hamstrings, gluteus, and calves. Push-ups involve the pectorals, deltoids, biceps, triceps -- even the abdominals and the upper back.
