With so many clubs available in college it’s hard to gauge which one is just right for you. These tips will help you find the community that is right for you.
1. Look back at your activities from high school.
When looking back at your high school experience you might remember running from club to club after school or maybe you were involved in a sport that took all of your time. No matter what your experience was, you likely had one extracurricular activity that just made your week a bit brighter. If so, try to find clubs that incorporate the aspects that you loved from your high school club. This is not only a way to beef up your resume but a great way to spend your time and make friends with those of like-minded interests.
2. Try to find clubs that incorporate your major
Joining clubs that relate to your major allows you to meet others that take the same courses as you. This comes in handy when you need notes from a class you missed, a recommendation for a core requirement or a study partner during finals week. Depending on the club, your activity might be recognized by people within your field.
3. Perhaps you can enable your inner child and fulfill interests you never dared to major in
Clubs are a great way to explore those quirky interests that you like but might not want to major in. Join the food club that travels the city and samples restaurants throughout the town; fulfill your Pitch Perfect dreams and sing acapella. Whatever it is don’t be afraid to explore. You just might be surprised what you will discover.
