How To End The Winter Blues

Ten activities to end your winter break boredom.

Let's face it; we have been counting down the days till winter break. Now that it's here you find that you have been sitting around in your pajamas bing7ing on Netflix for the past four days in a row. At first, it's relaxing and a relief to not have to be anywhere. However, after a while it starts to get boring. Here are my top ten things to do during winter break to bust out of the house and make break a little more lively.

1) Go ice skating.

There is nothing more fun then grabbing a group of friends, your family, or your significant other and heading to the rink. Sure, you may make yourself look like an uncoordinated fool, but it sure beats laying around all day watching the same movie for the eighth time in a row.

2) Go sledding.

Nothing makes you feel like a kid again than grabbing a sled and heading to your nearest hill. Have some fun with friends and make the best of the snowy weather while it lasts.

3) Go see a movie.

Get out of your pajamas and see a new movie in the theaters. Treat yourself to some popcorn and enjoy one of the many new movies that have been highly anticipated.

4) Go bowling.

Another fun activity to do with a group over the break. Grab some friends that have been out of town, or family you only get to see once or twice a year and invoke some friendly competition.

5) Walk through a museum.

There are so many great opportunities to explore and the possibilities are endless. Whether it's art, science, or sports that you enjoy, go out and learn more while you have the spare time.

6) Give back.

Volunteer your time somewhere that has always interested you. Do a simple google search of your area to find places to give your time and do some good with the spare time.

7) Learn how to ski or snowboard.

It's the perfect time to learn something new, so why not correlate with the season. Give something new a try, or if you are already a pro, teach someone else. Then you'll have someone to go with!

8) Go on a hunt for Christmas lights.

Drive around and try to find the best house in your city with the best light display. Or even better, find a drive through light show and enjoy the holiday season.

9) Play in the snow.

Build a snowman, a snow angel, or a fort. Enjoy the wonderful season that mother nature has given you.

10) Have a beach day.

If you aren't a snow person, bring the beach and warm weather to you. Grab a space heater, a towel, make your favorite summer drink, listen to summertime music, and pretend you are somewhere warmer. Who says winter break has to be cold?

27 Things 'The Office' Has Taught Us

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.

Being pre-med is quite a journey. It’s not easy juggling school work, extracurricular activities, volunteering, shadowing, research, and MCAT prep all at the same time. Ever heard of “pain is temporary, but GPA is forever?” Pre-meds don’t just embody that motto; we live and breathe it. Here are 10 symptoms you’re down with the pre-med student syndrome.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

Books were always about understanding for me, about learning the way someone else sees, about connection.

High School And College Sucked All Of The Fun Out Of Reading

I keep making this joke whenever the idea of books is brought up: "God, I wish I knew how to read." It runs parallel to another stupid phrase, as I watch my friends struggle through their calculus classes late at night in our floor lounge: "I hope this is the year that I learn to count." They're both truly idiotic expressions, but, when I consider the former, I sometimes wonder if there's some truth to it.

One Book Made Me Question Existence In Its Entirety

"The Stranger" by Albert Campus touches upon many heavy elements... but not in the way you expect. Although it touches upon the aspects of death and love, it also deals with a hidden philosophy similar to that of nihilism.

The story follows the short life events of Meursault, a Frenchman whose carelessness for his actions eventually ends him in jail and dependent on a jury of people to judge the ethicality of his decision and the punishment that he deserves. He eventually gets the death penalty and all throughout he is nonchalant and almost apathetic towards his situation. He finally snaps when the prison sends a priest to him to absolve him of his sins and to cajole him in confessing to the lord.
