Have you ever wanted to eat brownies straight out of the oven without turning your mouth into a fiery inferno? The solution is simple, yet not many people know about it.
If we take a look at the second law of thermodynamics, we find a statement that helps us understand why we get burned: heat always flows spontaneously from hotter to colder bodies, and never the reverse. So basically, when you burn yourself, you’re allowing the hot object to stay on your skin long enough to transfer its heat to your skin. They keywords here are long enough.
Now that you understand that, let’s get to the solution. Most people think that all you have to do is make sure the object never stays in one place too long, however, I assume you’ve tried that in the past and got varying results. The key to being able to eat hot stuff constantly is to inhale as you’re moving the food around. For a visual of this, check out Brian Brushwood’s “Scam School” video (Skip to 4:49) where he puts a match in his mouth without burning himself. What’s happening is that you’re taking heat and transferring it to your lungs, while not allowing it to stay in one place. Which brings me to my next point. Do not do this with really hot things. You can end up with serious lung damage if you constantly do this with extremely hot things like matches.
This is specifically to save your mouth from getting burned when you eat something that’s too hot. So next time your grandma bakes her famous brownies, you can eat them at their best, straight out of the oven.
