How To Dive Into Summer

Because what the hell are you supposed to do after finals week?

How To Dive Into Summer

So, you’re done with finals. What do you do now?

For starters, it’s important to just take care of yourself. Haven’t slept for days because finals were taking over your life? Yeah, sounds about right. Rest, drink water, and just relax—you deserve it. From all the sleepless nights, perhaps unhealthy foods, and loads of caffeine, that really takes a toll on your body and overall health. Take it easy the first day or two you start your summer. You’ll then have enough energy to do all that you intend to do.

When you finally feel normal again, start to venture out. Maybe meet up with a small group of friends. You could do something small like have a picnic at a local park or stay in and watch movies. Do something relaxing, but also something that will allow you to catch up with each other’s lives. It’s a great start to launch your spectacular summer-to-be.

A couple of days of that and you’ll be feeling above normal in no time. Go to some restaurants, order some drinks, eat great food, and just have a great time. Maybe even go out dancing afterward; be spontaneous, because now you have the time to be!

Once you’ve hit full effect of having enough energy for summer, cross off things on your bucket list! Perhaps you should also work to make money for all your shenanigans… but once you’ve saved enough, go skydiving like you’ve always dreamed of or go backpacking for a few days. Make memories that you’ll never forget. Memories that you will look back on and smile about.

Maybe the entire academic year didn’t go so well. Maybe you didn’t get the grades you wanted, hang out with the people you said you would, or reach goals you set out to reach. Well, what now? You could take summer classes and strive to get "A"’s in them. You can finally call up with friend you’ve been meaning to hang out with for months. You can actually reach the goal of having six-pack abs if you’re persistent enough, or being able to do the splits.

Wake up early and see sunrises, take the time to watch sunsets, and stop what you’re doing to just lie and watch the stars. Go on endless road trips, sing your heart out, fall in love-- do all those cliché summer things you see in magazines.

Summer is also a great time to catch up with family. Throughout the year you have to go to classes, study, work, have a social life, and are involved in extracurriculars, so there’s hardly time to go and spend quality time with your family. They helped you get so far; it would be a shame to not give back. They miss you even though they might not show it, and they are so proud of you.

Have a great summer of 2016!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
