How to Deal with A Busy Schedule
The Organized Student

I don't know about you but I'm feeling EXHAUSTED! Yes, I just used a Taylor Swift line but made it my own. Don't judge. I'm tired from having a jam-packed schedule. Aren't you?

I'm noticing people are starting to have anxiety and stress over school. Everyone, including myself, are complaining and it is only the second week of classes. My roommates are Nursing majors and they are just having the time of their lives doing work for about 12+ hours a day. By the way, I am being sarcastic. We're all wanting that week long break to come and it eventually will but we have to deal with the workload for now. I have 4 tips on how to deal with your busy schedule along with 4 way to win down after your week.

4 tips on how to deal with your busy schedule:

1. Simplify

You don't want to work yourself too much. Slow down and think about what is important to be on your schedule. Being in clubs is really great but you don't want to be in most of them because you need to focus on doing everything to your full potential. Pick and choose which clubs you love the most. Once you've done so see which ones fit into your schedule.

2. Organization

PLANNER. PLANNER. PLANNER. I can't stress it enough that you need to have a planner in order to organize your life! I use it on a daily bases in order to keep track of what needs to get done by when and what I need to attend.

Another way to organize is to create a customized calendar. I had fun creating my colorful calendar on Excel!

3. Practice saying "No"

You don't have to do everything! If you have work to get done and your friends asks if you can take him/her to the mall, say no. If you are at a club meeting and the president of the club asks you to do something but you have to work on a group project at that time, say no. You have to put yourself first ALWAYS. Think about how it is going to affect your health (sleep) and your school work before you say yes to something.

4. Take care of yourself

Ask for help if you need any help! Your professors, tutors, and college staff are there to help you if you need it so take advantage of them. See a counselor if you aren't feeling like yourself. Get eight hours of sleep a night! Trust me you need them.

Ways to win down:

1. Have a glass of wine

Listen, wine is good for you! I encourage those of age to have one or multiple glasses of wine after a long week.

2. Watch Netflix and chill

Hangout with your friends and watch an old movie that's on Netflix. Enjoy your friends company! Fun fact: My mom will probably kill me for saying this but she didn't know what Netflix and chill was until a month ago!

3. Sleep all day

Sometime you need to catch up on sleep and taking a day to do so is completely okay! I'm guilty of staying in bed all day on Saturdays.

4. Go for a walk or a hike

Walking around with nothing but your keys in hand is relieving. Leave your phone in your room and just walk with friends around campus. Chat about your crazy busy week and enjoy each others company.

I hope everyone is having a good start to their semesters even though it might be stressful right now. Remember to take care of yourself and have fun learning. Think about this, If you aren't having fun learning then why are you in that class?

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
