How To Cook A Non-Dairy Thanksgiving

It’s that time of the year to eat delicious ham and juicy turkey, but it also the time where everyone stresses in preparation to cook the well-loved meal. This year my thanksgiving prep is searching the web for recipes that has dairy substitutes, many other Americans will as well be doing the same. So, in the giving spirit I’m going to give my go to recipes for cooking a non-dairy thanksgiving. Let’s start!

Appetizers:

This is the easiest part of the meal if you are just trying to avoid dairy. You can do a spread of vegetables or fruit, salsa and chips, wings (my favorite are honey bbq), a meat tray of deli meats and olives, and lastly devil eggs with mayo that of course has no dairy!!!

Main meal:

This is where it gets a little trickier because if you like southern cooking it’s a lot of butter. But Walmart online sells a butter that is made without any form of dairy! But if you can’t order it in time just make it with olive oil unless you are afraid it’ll taste different. I personally like when my mom makes her own glaze which doesn’t even use butter. She coats this in brown sugar and a specific mustard, so good and sweet. But as for turkey you can deep fry it or just cook it with other substitutes.

Sides:

Pretty much all sides use butter but olive oil is a great substitute, my mom has been making my mash potatoes with almond milk or silk and olive oil for a while and it tastes delicious. But if you want to avoid having to do that bacon wrapped asparagus in the oven is amazing and the kids will probably me more willing to eat their veggies.

Dessert:

My favorite dessert is pumpkin pie, so natural I follow a recipe that only has: unbaked pie crust or make your own, eggs (2), brown sugar (1/2 cup), cinnamon (1 ½ teaspoons), ground nutmeg (1/4 teaspoon), salt (1/4), mashed cooked pumpkin (1 ¾ cups), 1 cup soymilk or rice milk or almond milk. Also, I found out Oreos have no dairy so if you want to make a milkshake with those and almond milk its great but if you have left over pumpkin and graham crackers you can make a pumpkin pie shake. If you aren’t pumpkin obsessed like me you can always go on Pinterest for great recipes!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
