With many states still under strict lock down orders, millions around the country will honor their fathers from the comfort of their homes. It can be difficult to imagine how this Father's Day could possibly top the year's prior, where there were no limitations on how and where you could celebrate this special day. However, quarantine doesn't warrant a lackluster celebration, as there are many ways that you can still cherish your loved ones on this special day from your home.
1. Spend time with him
That new Netflix movie release can wait until tomorrow; Father's Day only happens once a year, and the day will be much more special if you actually spend time with your father (I know, what a novel idea!). Let him finally explain the tedious rules of that board game he's been trying to get you to play with him for the past seven years, or humor him with all the dad jokes that he will undoubtedly want to tell. It is his special day, after all.
2. Make him a special breakfast, lunch, or dinner (or all three)
Let's be honest: it's most likely been your parents who have spent long hours in the kitchen, cooking up meals for the whole family during this time of isolation. Father's Day should be a day when your father can sit back, put his feet up, and read that book he's been meaning to start all year. He will be incredibly appreciative of all the effort and thought that you put into cooking something for him, and anything you make will be much more special than takeout from the local pizzeria.
3. Give them a small, creative gift
No matter how old you get, parents will always love gifts made from your very own hands. It can be something small, like a collage of baby photos pasted on some pretty card stock, or something more extravagant, like an watercolor painting of the mountain that he grew up on. Either way, it will show how much you care about him, and will remind him of you whenever he looks at it.
4. Do household chores-- without being asked
There is nothing a parent loves more than when you do chores, especially if they didn't have to tell you to do them in the first place. Besides, it's hard to show your love and appreciation for your father if their couch is covered in unfolded laundry and the counters are cluttered with dirty dishes.
5. Finally (and most importantly): tell him how much you love him, often
If you are not one to openly express your feelings and emotions very frequently, Father's Day is a great opportunity to say all that you have been meaning to, without it seeming strange or out of character. Everyone loves to feel appreciated, and meaningful words from your heart mean more than any gift you could possibly buy.
