Every once in a while you will have a day where it feels like nothing is going right and that it's just never going to end. Sometimes it feels like this literally every other day. This has been happening more frequently for me.
For example, a few weeks ago on a Thursday, I was having a rough day. I was so completely out of it that I had convinced myself it was Wednesday. I went to my first class. I'm sitting in this lecture hall when I realize something is wrong. This isn't my professor, nor do I understand what he's teaching, but this is the right room at the right time. It took me a solid thirty minutes before I realized that I was supposed to be in my physics class, not my psych class, but at this point, it was far too late to leave so I sat through another forty-five minutes of an econ lecture before sprinting out the door.
On days like that, it is important to de-stress. The same thing isn't going to work for everyone. I've found a few things that work for me and think they are worth sharing.
1. Calm app
I use this app all of the time. There's this thing on the app called the breathe bubble. It's a bubble and there's a little circle that goes around it to help you take deeper breaths. You can adjust the timing of it too.
2. Writing in a journal
One thing that has always helped me is to write in my journal. It helps you to think through all of your emotions. It also helps you to put everything in perspective. Sometimes it helps to not really write about anything and just do a three-minute stream of consciousness.
3. Listen to music
I have a playlist on my Spotify called "Breathe." It has a lot of slower songs that you can listen to if you're stressed out or if you're trying to study. I listen to it all the time.
4. Take a nap
Honestly, sleeping can solve a lot of problems. Set an alarm and take a twenty-minute power nap. You will wake up refreshed.
5. Go to the gym or do yoga
Go run it out. Find a yoga class. If there aren't any classes near you then there a plenty of fantastic videos on youtube that you can look up.
