How To Build Your Own Suicide Squad

After a solid year and a half waiting for the new movie "Suicide Squad" to premiere, I finally got to watch the spectacular film Thursday night, August 3, 2016. Before purchasing the tickets, my friend, sister and I looked online at some reviews of the movie. Most were poor reviews, so immediately, as expected, my hopes sunk to the ground. I started to give it a second thought, wondering if I should really waste my time and money on a movie that received so many awful opinions. And yes, I take opinions very seriously. But, I got talked into watching it regardless and so here I am, waiting to see if the movie I was so desperate in seeing will actually live up to the hype that I was giving it.

After two hours and 10 minutes of suspenseful, mind-blowing, skin crawling, nail-biting, seat grabbing action, I found myself stuck (metaphorically) in my seat. I sat there for a good five minutes, just really processing what I just watched. It was one of those moments where you just sit and kind of replay an entire scenario in your head. I mean, I was just sitting there thinking, “What did I just watch, and why do I want to see it 1,000 times over again?" You know when you watch a movie and it really resonates you, to the point that when you’re watching it, you feel as though you are in the movie? That’s how I felt. Even when it was over, I still felt like I was a super villain, just like them. They really made me believe that I was apart of the movie. It felt so alive and real, it truly altered my perspective on everything.

Enough about the movie. After I watched it for the second time today, I was thinking of ways that this could actually apply to the real human world. What if, suicide squads actually existed? Would you know who to put on your team? Would your squad dominate all the other bad guy squads?

Based off of the movie, I can just give silly, non-applicable (but very cool) tips on who to put on your squad based on the characters from "Suicide Squad."

First, you need someone quick and nimble. Like Dead Shot. He aims with precision and 100 percent accuracy every time he used a gun. You need someone who’s agile and can sense danger from miles away. Someone with perfect vision, never needed glasses in his life. And he or she needs to have fast reflexes.

Secondly, you need some sort of animal-like person on your squad. Like Killer Croc, this member has to have animal like instincts. Preferably can live outside or inside of the water. Should be a very good swimmer and must be strong.

The third member has to be all sorts of crazy. Like the infamous Harley Quinn, the Joker’s girlfriend. Find someone who is fearless, reckless and psychotic. Someone who can kill anyone and not feel anything about it. Someone who will risk her life just because she thinks it’s “thrilling."

You then need someone who is all about crime-committing. They have tricks up their sleeves that nobody else knows about. They can help in very mysterious ways. And it is better if they are more on the ferocious side, like Captain Boomerang. He is described as a “violent thug who uses a variety of high tech boomerangs to commit crimes."

Lastly, on your team, you need someone who has supernatural powers. But doesn't play the bad guy, he actually has a lot of good in heart. Someone who is the strongest out of the team, who can knock everyone out with a single flick of his hands. But must have good intentions or he could destroy the entire world. He is critical to be on the team because ultimately, he will destroy the villain.

You also need someone who will defy everything and everyone. Someone who has a partner on the other side. Someone like the Joker, a ruthless, unforgiving, unapologetic, morally incorrect, unsympathetic evil soul that you will ever encounter. At the end, he will probably take over, so make sure he stays on your side and doesn't turn his back on you. Also, make sure he's good looking, he has to be the looker on the team.

And then of course you need a bunch of good guys, a boss leader who is definitely a woman, a commander in chief of the so called human army and a wicked, witch creature, possessed enchantress who plays the bad guy and has supernatural powers and is very difficult to defeat. And then you can basically make your own suicide squad or pretend to have one.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
