Moving down South isn't just a temperature change but a lifestyle change. Things are said differently, worn differently, and viewed differently. The accents are thick, the food delicious, and the hospitality out of this world. If you find someone living in the South not following these trends, they're not a true southerner.
Outfits:
1. Oversized T-Shirts
Buying shirts two sizes too big is just as much a fashion statement as it is comfortable.
2. Norts
Not only are Nike shorts super popular down south, but they also have earned the fancy nickname, "norts."
3. Patagonia
You are not a true southerner if you don't own at least one article of Patagonia clothing.
4. Chacos
Nobody how many shoes a girl owns, these make an appearance 9% of the time.
Southern Slang:
1. "Y'all"
Or, even worse, "all y'all."
2. "Coke"
It is not "pop." It is not "soda." It is "Coke." Even Fanta is to be called this.
3. "Buggy"
If you ask for a shopping cart, expect a weird look of confusion.
4. "Sweetie"
"Sweetie" isn't just a term said by grandparents. It can be heard from waitresses and even complete strangers.
5. "Yes Sir"
The south is known for their manners and this phrase is a sign of respect.
Accessories
1. Enos
If you're on a college campus and don't see thousands of these hanging in the trees, something is wrong.
2. KAVU
Essentially a mini backpack, but definitely a necessity.
3. Stickers on EVERYTHING
Laptops are not complete without a dozen stickers.
4. Nalgene Water Bottles
Covered in stickers, of course.
Food:
1. Grits
The north just can't make them like the south can.
2. Fried Okra
Vegetables can be tasty.
3. Sweet Tea
Tastes even better in a Mason Jar.
