How To Be Single For The Holidays

How To Be Single For The Holidays

Throughout the year, I’ve had friends that have gone through rough breakups before the holidays, so here’s for you girls that have kind of lost the ability to be single this Holiday break.

  1. Eat whatever you want. Do you want a salad? Awesome. Do you want a cookie? Great. Your body is your own and you can eat whatever you want. This is something you should be doing anyways, but now you have less concern for what “Brad” or whatever-his-name-is will think.
  2. Buy yourself that sweater you’ve been eyeing for three weeks. Because you’re saving all of this money by not needing to buy a watch for him, socks for his sister, expensive wine for his mom, and a hat for his dad. Sweaters are so much cheaper, too.
  3. Spend time with your friends. We all have those friends that we only see over holiday breaks, so take some time to get a cup of coffee with them and catch up. The friends that matter are the ones that are there for you especially when you need them, which doesn’t necessarily mean they’re there all the time.
  4. Hang out with your family. Because the holidays are about those people that are on your side no matter what. And these are the years that you’re going to miss more than anything else. So don’t roll your eyes at your dad’s jokes (no matter how bad they are) and listen to what your mom says, especially if you tune her out sometimes. And your siblings aren’t that unbearable, there are some of us that would give anything for the family that you take for granted.
  5. All in all, do whatever makes you happy. Because no one person has the power or the ability to control your own happiness.

So this holiday season, just be happy. You’ve made it through another year with your health, happiness, and people you care about. That in itself is a reason to celebrate. Who cares if you don’t have matching ugly Christmas sweater with a date? That’s not what it’s about anyway.

I thought senioritis in high school was rough until I became a college senior about to go into the real world. I'm supposed to have everything figured out, right? I mean I went through four years of tough classes and serious self-searching (and crying). What I found overall was Senioritis sneaking up on me.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
