Being Jewish during Christmas time can be a little hard. When everywhere is covered in Christmas trees and lights, you can sometimes feel like Hanukkah is being overlooked. BUT IT’S OKAY! Because being a Jew on Christmas has its perks and I am here to tell you why. Have you ever heard the song “Chinese Food on Christmas” by Brandon Harris Walker on YouTube? He perfectly describes this feeling!
Eat Chinese Food!
It’s the only place open on Christmas. And trust me, you would never think that sesame chicken is a great holiday meal!
Go to a friend's house on Christmas!
All of my friends constantly beg for me to come to their house on Christmas morning so I can experience what it is like. Sometimes I take them up on their offer, and then sometimes I go over later and eat all the leftovers from the dinner the night before!
Go to the movies!
They’re open too! And there will be so many seats open because mostly everyone is opening presents!
Watch a holiday (Christmas) movie!
Elf, Home Alone, any Christmas movie ever!!!! (I love Christmas movies and I’m a Jew, WHO CARES!)
Go outside!
If you live up North, make snow angels. If you live down by the beach, make sand angels!
Bake a cake!
Who doesn’t love a cake covered in icing and candies? It makes for the perfect holiday treat!
Spend time with your family!
Cuddle up and just hang out. You can do any of the above items off the list to get into your own holiday spirit and being together is what the holidays are all about.
Throw a Hanukkah party!
Light those candles! Spin that driedal! Have a Hanukkah Partyyyyyy!!!!
So, just because you don't celebrate Christmas with a tree and gifts and all that jazz, make your holiday season the best it can be by getting in your own holiday spirit! Make the most out of vacant movie theaters and the surplus of Chinese food.
But most of all, Happy Hanukkah!!
