Here are some rules to follow while you're sitting shotgun in your friend's car.
1. Hold The Wheel
A crucial element of any car ride is great music. Music that's mutually loved among whoever is in the car at the time. As co-pilot, it's your job to take over the wheel whenever the driver exits the real world and enters "the zone." To set the scene, imagine that you're sitting in the passenger seat while your best friend is driving and all of the sudden Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" comes on and your driver is loving it. When the chorus comes, they inevitably take their hands off the wheel and wave them around in the air. THIS IS YOUR MOMENT! You grab the wheel and steer as they let it out. After about ten seconds, revert their head so it's facing the road and that will remind them that they are driving.
2. Stay Off The Phone
As co-pilot, you must make sure that you are equally, if not more, attentive as your driver. If your driver is looking down at their phone, you must make sure that your eyes are on the road so at least one of you are paying attention.
3. Don't Vape
First of all, if you're still vaping in 2017 you need to seriously re-evaluate yourself. I'm not speaking about the small electronic cigarettes that people use to quit smoking, I'm talking about those external hard-drives that everyone is using to blow dragon-sized clouds that smell like Fruity Pebbles. If all of the windows are closed and you smoke one of those vapes, the consequences could be deadly. You wouldn't want a blind driver, would you?
4. Feed Your Pilot
You just left the McDonald's drive through and your driver is hungry. Co-pilot, it's your job to be a good friend and feed them. Your driver says "drink," you pick up their soda and let them have it. Your driver says "burger," you pick up that delicious new Grand Mac and feed it to them. (I should be getting paid for plugging the new McDonald's burger.) This assures that your driver is full and not taking their hands off the steering wheel and their eyes off the road.
P.S - This also goes for lighting their cigarettes.
