Here Are 8 Ways You Can Become An Activist

Malala Yousafzai, Rosa Parks, Nelson Mandela, Harriet Tubman. These are only a few activists in the world who have changed it for better. Many people wonder how they can be activist for topics they care about and how they too can make a difference. In this list, I will teach you how to be an activist.

1. Find something you would like to change.

What social issues just grinds your gears? Are you Pro-Life or Pro-Choice? Hate deforestation? Hate animal cruelty? Find something you want to change.

2. Research!

Research the topic that you're passionate about. Find out what are the discussions about the topic. See what the opposing side is saying. Find out how other people are helping to make a change and how you can help the efforts.

3. Spread the word.

Tell everyone you know about the issue! Post it on all of your social media accounts. You can even discuss your topic with people who oppose it, and maybe convince them to change their position.

4. Speak to your legislature.

Contact your State Representatives or Governor. You can find their contact information on state websites. You can email or call them to discuss how they can help in efforts to make a difference in your topic.

5. Attend meetings or marches.

Find out when your topic or issue will have meetings or marches that will bring awareness to the public. You may meet some great people attending these events. If you have time you can even host your own meetings and marches.

6. Donate (Optional).

Give money to organizations that support your cause. There will be several organizations or funds that will be accepting donations so if you can give your hard earned cash (if you can), that can always help.

7. Be aware of who you support. (Spring Cleaning)

Make sure that the politicians, celebrities, artist and even family and friends are not against your cause. It would suck if someone who you were giving money to for music is 100% against your cause. If you do find people you support do not like your cause you can simply stop supporting them. Time for some spring cleaning.

8. VOTE!!!!!!!

Vote in your local and state elections. Voting for candidates who support your cause will ensure that you will have someone within the government to make a change depending on your cause.

These eight key points will help become an activist. I cannot promise that you will have a legacy such as Rosa Parks, but these eight steps will get you on your way to making a difference in the world. With this new power comes great responsibility. Make sure that whatever cause you intend to support and become an activist for will not hurt other people in any way. *cough* *cough* Westboro Baptist Church. I hope that you enjoy this list and become a true activist! Good luck on your endeavors.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
