How To Avoid Adulting

Because you have no idea what you're doing.

How To Avoid Adulting
Pop Matters

You spent the majority of your childhood envisioning a future that was filled with expensive, castle-like houses, Prince Charming, and no worries, but now that you've almost reached adulthood, it's time to face the facts. Adulthood is hard. It's filled with taxes, loans, doctor's appointments, chores, and several prince not-so-charmings, and you've been lucky enough that you haven't had to completely face adulting...yet.

Unfortunately, though, adulting is something we're all going to be forced to do one day. But while we're in college, we can always avoid it for just a little bit longer by following a few simple rules.

1. Sleep as much as you can.

Sure, you have a huge pile of homework, exams to study for and a job you should be going to, but you can never go wrong with a good nap.

2. Pretend to be a kid again.

Go on an adventure, get a coloring book, watch every Disney princess movie, or even spend your day day-dreaming about how fun and easy being an adult will be, anything to keep you from forgetting about your lack of money and your terrible love life.

3. Stay in college as long as you can.

College may not be easy but it will always be better than being a full-fledged adult. So what's staying in college for a few extra years going to do? There's always that one kid who stays in school until their mid-30s anyways.

4. Stay out as late as possible.

Even if it's a weekday and you have a 7:45 a.m. class or an early shift in the morning, your 20s are meant for fun, so who cares if you have work or class? It's not like you know what you're doing in life in the first place.

5. Ask mom to make your doctor's appointments.

Or just not go. Who needs clean teeth anyway?

6. Avoid checking your bank account.

Only having a part-time job and spending all of your money on online shopping takes a toll on your bank account, but if you don't check it, then it's basically like you haven't spent a penny. Right?

7. Learn to survive off of Ramen noodles.

Cooking is overrated, and a little difficult at times, plus you don't have the money to afford a nice meal. So Ramen noodles and Easy Mac it is.

8. Waste as much time as possible.

Youtube, Netflix, sleep, anything to keep you mind preoccupied and stress-free. Why adult when you can just waste your time in front of the TV?

9. Avoid cleaning.

Yeah the trash is overflowing, your room needs to be vacuumed and you've been wearing the same clothes for days now, but why spend your limited time cleaning when it's just going to get dirty again? Plus laundry is free at home.

10. Always ask Mom

Your mom has been an adult for a while now and has learned how to do everything, so when you don't have the money to pay for something, or you need to make an appointment, or you don't know how to use the dishwasher, she'll always have the answer.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
