A short while ago, Mexican journalist Jorge Ramos interviewed American white nationalist Jared Taylor, the editor of the white supremacist magazine American Renaissance. The intent of the interview was to expose the broader issue of racism in this country. Having seen Jorge Ramos' previous work, I was hoping to see him win the argument and create a video that would disprove any racist ideas. Then I watched the video and it ended up being just like every argument liberals and conservatives take part in. Jorge lost the argument. Don't get me wrong, Mr Taylor was completely incorrect in every thing he said. But, in the context of a debate, Taylor won by making every one of his points without being truly refuted. I have the utmost respect for Jorge Ramos and as a wannabe Journalist, I would be lucky if I was a fraction as good as he is. However, in this interview Ramos behaved liked the typical liberals I see at rallies where the best argument they can make is, "That's racist!". Telling admitted racists that they are being racist isn't enough anymore. Simply commenting "Absolutely disgusting" isn't enough anymore.

The funny part is, racism is probably one of the easiest arguments to disprove yet people don't bother. Just look at this video:

So I would like to show what I think would have been the more useful retorts in debating the asshole Jared Taylor. For Context, please watch the video here:

1: DON'T argue with him. If you're a journalists, your job is to simply ask questions and let the interviewed subject answer. Anything else would be akin to Fox news. However, if you must argue, see the next steps.

2: 1st point Taylor makes is that if you look at the worst and most barbaric places on Earth, they're all that way because they're diverse.

History says different. Constantinople, the Arabic empires, Ancient Rome and a lot more were some of the greatest civilizations. Those places thrived BECAUSE of their diversity. In the present, look at NYC, California, India, South Africa, all of which have very diverse populations and are very stable. This is often because any progress in economy, society, tech, etc requires new elements added.

3: Taylor says he likes that trump will put a temporary ban on Muslim immigration.

This is is easily refuted. 1st: it ended up hurting us more than helping as it pushed more Muslims towards ISIS. Second: if he thinks Muslims are a danger than he should be upset with Trump as the three Muslim countries trump left off the ban (Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Egypt) were the only countries who've had nationals responsible for American deaths.

4: Taylor claims that the white population (at that, I think he's only referring to White Anglo Saxon Protestants like our founding fathers) built this country.

False. The literal building and labor of most our nation's history was done on the backs of immigrants and slaves. You can list off dozens of American achievements made possible by non-white Americans. I mean, the White House, that shinning structure of our country, was literally built by black slaves.

5: Taylor claims that the well being of Latinos in the U.S will be the end for whites by making white people a minority. Mr. Ramos's response was to suggest that that is the inherent right for Latinos. Big mistake. What Ramos did there was to confirm this idiot's fears.

All he had to say was, "Why not have America start treating minorities like actual citizens? That way whites have nothing to fear about becoming a minority."

6: Ramos says Latinos, being 17% of the population, deserve 14 senators as opposed to the 3 current Latino senators. That's a suggestion of segregation.

A senator should represent all of his/her constituents and not just the ones of his/her own race. Saying Latinos should be represented by Latino Senators gives license to the white senators to NOT represent them. Ramos should've demanded that ALL senators, regardless of race, represent Latinos. If you're a white politician in this country, you should be expected to earn the trust and respect of Latino Americans.

7: When Ramos asks, "You don't want to live alongside Mexicans?" Taylor's retort is that his neighborhood shouldn't change because it's "European" and his white neighbors [unlike Mexicans] don't keep chickens that crow at 3 am.

Easily rebuked. This guy clearly lives in a very wealthy community, so naturally any immigrants who can afford to live alongside him probably won't be of the chicken owning variety. Ramos was correct in stating that the whole chicken thing was just a stereotype, but guys like Taylor simply don't care.

8: Ramos asks what Taylor what he thinks should happen to the Muslims in the U.S. military? Taylor sarcastically responds with, "I'm sure we just couldn't possibly survive without all those Muslim navy rangers".

I guess he never heard of the hundreds of Muslim American soldiers who worked as Arabic translators in Iraq and Afghanistan and were crucial to the effort there. Ask the veterans who served there and they'll tell you that they survived because of their Muslim comrades. Side note; as of 2014 there were 157,000 Hispanics serving in the U.S. military. So would keeping out Hispanic immigrants really be such a smart move?

9: Taylor asserts that on average Whites and north Asians are the naturally more intelligent than the other races while only using certain historical achievements as proof. He offers no physiological evidence. When Ramos correctly claims that comparing the intelligence of one race to another is ridiculous because of a myriad of reasons, Taylor says, "More excuses."

Okay lets go there. The Muslim Arab world created algebra, preserved classical Greek sciences, and greatly advanced astronomy. Bronze, Iron, Steel, The first alphabet, the concept of zero, paved roads. Not one of those items originated in Europe. So do you really wanna talk about excuses? If white people are such a superior race surely they could've thought of zero. Or perhaps the achievements of a civilization can't be attributed to something as trivial as skin color.

Jared Taylor is an idiot. He has virtually no social, anthropological, or even historical expertise. However, he is the most dangerous type of racists because he knows how to argue. And until liberals can come up with better responses than, "That's racists!" the Jared Taylors of the world will continue to attract a following.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
