Here's another makeup tip coming your way: how to apply makeup with a sunburn. It happens to the best of us; little to no sunscreen applied, and suddenly you've got a tomato face. While it will take a few days for the redness to fade, there are ways to combat it to the best of your ability while you wait.
1. Moisturize, DUH!
I currently have a face sunburn so bad it's practically screaming at me through waves of heat to apply Aloe every five minutes. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. That's the best way to ensure the sunburn heals the fastest, and it should be your main priority before trying to cover it up. Aloe and any kind of lotion should suit it best. You don't want to have your skin go to battle with different products before putting on your armor! Don't forget to apply sunscreen as well. My favorite moisturizer is the Mountain Ocean Coconut Skin Trip Moisturizer.
2. Reduce the Redness, YES!
Of course you want to reduce the redness! Unless you like the red-faced look. Here's where things get interesting and you get to play with color even more--- use a green or yellow tinted concealer to start. This will counteract the redness - much like how these colors are used to get rid of the appearance of dark under-eye circles, they will also help with a sunburn.
3. Apply your face makeup
While it is recommended to use as little cover-up as possible in order to let the burn heal itself and avoid more irritation, you can go on ahead and apply your regular-colored concealer or foundation on top of the green or yellow you've already applied. This should now really help your skin begin to look like its normal self. While your face may still be redder than usual, it will look less so. Try to use hypoallergenic mineral makeup if you can for less irritation. If your skin is peeling, avoid applying make-up to those areas as it will only draw more attention instead of taking it away.
4. Avoid the blush/highlighter
This may seem like a no-brainer, but I thought I'd include this in here anyway. Your face will already have more color to it than usual, so avoid adding even more. Bronzer may help reduce the redness and balance it out, but blush will only add to the mess you are trying to cover up. Highlighter should be avoided as well--- it will only draw more attention to your skin.
5. Don't bring in more red!
Avoid the red tones on other areas of your face as well. Reddish/pinkish lipsticks or eye-shadows will only bring out the redness in your skin more. Instead, opt for a more nude lipstick or just plain/tinted balm and more neutral/brownish eye shadows.
Good luck, and may your sunburn RIP!
