Whether you're on Instagram or VSCO or Tumblr, you have probably noticed a new trend on the rise. It's the overall "theme" or "aesthetic" that you choose to set up and post accordingly on your social media profile. This style can be achieved simply by using the same filter over and over again, or you could follow a more complex route and attempt to organize your photos based on position or shape. The "aesthetic" you choose will be hard to maintain, and if you're OCD like me, you won't always be satisfied with every post, but it makes a profile so much more visually appealing.
I am somewhat of an Instagram addict. I have been since I was in middle school. But I take so many photos with so many different people that I have struggled to really find my "aesthetic." I love photography, but I have always stuck to just posting pictures of me by myself, A.K.A. a selfie (for those unfamiliar with "what the kids are saying these days") or with a few friends. Nevertheless, finding a filler or transition photo of a tree or a cool wall somewhere or a pair of shoes on a floor with a cool pattern isn't really what I go for on my Instagram.
Hence, I have found another outlet for my hunger for posting pictures nonstop. VSCO is an app that many have on their phone, but not for the same reason that I do. To say the least, VSCO filters are the best thing on planet Earth. And yeah, some of them do cost money, but even the free packs are much better than Instagram's (and Snapchat's, which shouldn't ever be a part of someone aesthetic in my opinion). If you're looking to start a new aesthetic for your Instagram, VSCO is a good place to start.
Anyways, rather than just using VSCO for their filters, I have found that using it for posting my photography and other random iPhone photos allows for an additional profile in which I can successfully have my aesthetic. Instead of repeating a filter, I am constantly transitioning from color to color.
Now, don't get me wrong. Transitioning between colors isn't always the way to go with aesthetic. Some wouldn't see the overall organization and style on a site like Instagram, this works for my VSCO. Most Instagrammers find a light/white or dark/black pattern and continue that until they run out of pictures or want a change. But if you know where to look for good filters and have an eye for photography, keeping up an aesthetic can be fun.
And even while this may seem time-consuming and somewhat unnecessary, it's the new trend. A unique and well-executed aesthetic is what any social media user needs to reach INSTA FAME. That's kind of a joke. But why not pretend you're famous and have a visually appealing Instagram feed or website? Finding youre "aesthetic" is a good place to begin.
