The Issues That Were Left Out of the Debates

How the American People Got Screwed

I hardly watched the three debates this election cycle. One, because I already know who I'm voting for, but mostly because I can't stand to hear Donald Trump talk longer than about 45 seconds. So, I decided to skip watching them. There are plenty of people who did watch the debates, though and got ripped off. Why? There weren't any questions on major issues affecting a majority of American people.

This isn't to say that all of the questions asked were nonsense. The WikiLeaks drop about the Clinton campaign, Donald Trump's questionable, at best, actions, ISIS, the debt, are all legitimate things should be asked a debate. The problem is the excruciating amount of time and focus on these issues.

Here's a list of what was and wasn't talked about. The issues that weren't talked about? poverty, NSA/Privacy, climate change, student debt. All extremely pressing issues that require immediate attention for somebody running for arguably the most powerful position in the world.

I'll be candid and say that I'm voting for Hillary Clinton, and since I follow this stuff on a regular basis I know relatively where she stands on these issues and her plans. I don't know, though, her feelings about the NSA spying on every American, nor do I know her call for a plan to deal with it.

I also have no idea where Donald Trump stands on a majority of those issues mentioned about. Granted, it's hard to get a straight answer out of him, let alone a concrete plan on anything, but I would like to hear what he has to say and how he feels about them (in less than 45 seconds preferably).

Whether you're conservative, liberal, or on the fence, you deserve to know what these candidates have to say about such things. It's the media's, and the moderator's, jobs to ask these questions at least ONCE.

Climate change will and already has had catastrophic effects on the environment not just in the U.S., but worldwide. Student debt has surpassed over $1 trillion dollars and the system we have in place right now is completely unsustainable. The NSA is watching everything you say and post through your mobile devices, and computers like a George Orwell novel come to life. prices and inflation are rising faster than incomes can keep up with, and you're telling me the media couldn't ask ONE SIMPLE QUESTION?

Yes, Hillary Clinton is everything that embodies our corrupt government. Yes, Donald Trump is a despicable person who knows nothing and is an actual threat to our republic, but we know this. We've known this since they were running. Now ask what these two candidates, who are the most disliked candidates in history, are going to do about consequential issues affecting everyday Americans regardless of race, religion, gender, or political leanings. For the love of god, media, just do your job.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
