It's no secret that this has been a strange and hard week, no matter what side you fall on. I'm conservative, and I am still surprised. This is one election cycle that I'm very excited to read about in my kid's history books in 15 years. The election utilized social media and mudslinging like nothing ever before, and I'm anxiously waiting to see the way historians and political scientists categorize this strange time in America.

One topic that's been floating around social media in the last 12 hours has been, "How do we tell our kids about the election? How do parents lead their children in light of the way our president speaks?". Did Trump say awful things in his campaign? Absolutely. Does he have some sketchy things on his record? Of course. Keeping all of this in mind, the president shouldn't determine the way parents lead their children.

For the next four years, we will wake up knowing the same thing we've always known: God is sovereign, even in elections. He is the same God who was present during the New Deal, the Whigs, Obama, the Bush family, the Clintons, and JFK. If we believe God's word is above anything else, than what do parents have to fear about what a president does?

Rather than tell your children, "Trump is our president and no one really knows what will happen." Change the conversation and say, "Yes, Trump is our president but God is above any earthly politician -- and it is better to excitedly raise a family with God's Word at the center than to cautiously raise a family in fear of what the president will do."

Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them." In Greek, the original verse translates the word "workmanship" to a word "poema". When Paul wrote Ephesians, his original meaning was that "we are His poetry." And I highly doubt the sovereign God would write a bad poem.

So in these next few months of readjustment, don't teach your kids about Trump out of fright but tell them about what good is to come in Christ. The laws of God are far above any law passed by the Senate, and they've been the same for a much longer time. Rest assured knowing no politician can change what God has set in place.

When I was learning how to talk, I was taught both Portuguese and English at the same time. In elementary school, I started taking mandatory Spanish classes, which I did well in because of my knowledge of Portuguese. Then in high school, on top of taking Spanish, I also started taking French. Now, in college, already fluent in English and Portuguese, I'm in the process of becoming fluent in Spanish, and I have a standard high school level understanding of French.

I am without a doubt one of those people who refuses to start decorating for Christmas or listen to Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, Thanksgiving has become an underrated holiday over the years. You barely see any Thanksgiving decorations in stores; it's like they skip right from Halloween to Christmas.

Some universities only get two or three days off for Thanksgiving break. Or, if your university is like mine, you get the whole week off go go home. A whole week off is a long time. I'm not complaining, because I'd rather have a whole week off than three days, but there is a lot of down time. Here are some ideas as to what you can do to get the most out of your Thanksgiving break.
