So there’s a lot of serious stuff going on this week with the inauguration and everything. There is often a lot of craziness going on in all our lives especially in these college years. I think everyone need to take some of their time to relax and just have a laugh. I found that when I am going to the gym, doing work, or driving in my car, I often enjoy listening to podcasts. After a while, I get bored of listening to music and want to listen to something that is really going to grab my attentions; something with a real storyline.

I recently came across a relatively new podcast called Mystery Show. I think I heard about it in an ad that came on during a different podcast. So I decided I would give it a try. I am so glad I did. Mystery Show is so entertaining and actually engages me in a way that many other podcasts have been unable to.

Mystery Show stars Starlee Kine, a long-time mystery-lover who has decided to turn her passion into a career. She decides to dedicate her time to solving the mysteries that no one else can or is willing to spend the time to.

So far there is one season of six episodes that anyone can download through iTunes for free or through the Podcasts app on the iPhone. I found her most interesting episode so far to be “Case #5 Source Code”. In this episode, she is challenged by one of her friends to uncover the true height of Jake Gyllenhaal. As he was watching the movie “Source Code,” he was confused to find that Jake’s height seemed to fluctuate throughout the movie. After looking more into his question on the internet, he saw that there were many people online who were also arguing about what Jake’s true height was. Apparently the star had announced in the past that he was “happily six feet tall”, but the fact that he felt the need to proclaim his happiness with it, only led to more suspicions among his questioners.

So Starlee was on the case to discover the truth. She went through ever resource and clue at her disposal, even sending friends who saw Jake in person to ask him his true height. However, even Jake wouldn’t tell them the truth. He actually refused to answer the question, apparently so intrigued by the fact that the world was so interested in the issue that they kept asking him.

However, by the end, Starlee had somehow managed to get not the phone with Jake where he finally revealed his true height to her and the world. Are you read for this? Are you sure?

“How tall are you?” She asked.

“I am…actually 5 foot eleven and one half of an inch”

After listening to the build up of this for the length of the 40 minute episode, it was amazing how satisfying it was to find out this information I didn’t know I wanted to know. I was truly satisfied, however the internet wasn’t. Even after this information from the man himself was made public, people still weren’t buying it. So both Starlee and Jake appeared on Conan and actually measured him. Although, Conan, not being a doctor and all, wasn’t able to decide if Jake was 5’11” or 6’ tall. I, on the other hand, and perfectly satisfied believing the actor is simply 5’11.5”.

This show, however ridiculous and unnecessary it seems and definitely is in some ways, was very entertaining and satisfying. It amazed me the extraordinary measures Starlee was willing to go to in order to solve these mysteries including finding Jake Gyllenhaal, buying a ticket to a meet and greet with Britney Spears, and traveling across the country to return lost objects or find missing video stores. You’ll have to listen to the show to understand those. Trust me you won’t regret it.

And I mean, don’t you feel so much better now that you know for sure how tall Jake Gyllenhaal is?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.
