How I Survived My Parents' Divorce
Project Inspired

I have lived my whole life thinking I had the perfect family with a mom, dad, and my two brothers. Yet all that was and illusion and I realized that you can't have a perfect life. I was shattered at first and then I realized I need to be strong and be there for my brothers. Being the oldest in this whole situation is even worse. When you are always having people asking you how you are, and are you doing okay, or my favorite is hows your family. Its hard to get through a divorce. To get through my parents' divorce, I have focused on three things, which are friends, family, and sports.

1. Friends

Friends are an important part of your life during a divorce. They are important because you know that they will always be on your side. They are the ones who see you almost everyday and know and see what you are going through. Especially when you are in college and are so far from home. Friends are there for you no matter the decisions you make and it makes you feel better knowing that they always consider the way you are feeling. I know through my parents divorce my friends were always there for me no matter what.

2. Family

Family is very important during a divorce. They can see both sides of the situation and help you make important decisions. They also always have a place for you too stay when you need to just get away from everything. They see what your going through and choose you over all the dramatic drama in the families. I know my cousin and grandparents have been there for me and helped me through my first year of college. Family is the most important thing to me and they have always had my back no matter what situation I get myself in.

3. Sports

Finally sports, when all the anger would build up inside me I would focus all the negative energy of all of my practices and games. Once I was mad I would focus on winning and playing my absolute hardest. I feel that anyone who needs to get anger out needs to do an activity that helps them positively get rid of the anger and frustration built up inside them. Since my parents have divorced I have won a basketball and track championship because I put all my anger into being the best I can be in everything I play and do .

Families and life are not perfect. If your parents ever get divorced just know its not the end of the world. If you have a strong base and family and friends behind you then you can conquer anything that gets in your way. This is how I survived my parents divorce by doing these three things. So if your parents have ever been divorced I hope you find what you need to get through it.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?

I've been super busy lately with school work, studying, etc. Besides the fact that I do nothing but AP chemistry and AP economics, I constantly think of stupid questions that are almost impossible to answer. So, maybe you could answer them for me, and if not then we can both wonder what the answers to these 15 questions could be.
